Chapter 14: Illuminating the Darkness

Soon I realize I’m just standing alone in the silent darkness of Arbor Woods. I wipe away my tears, hearing my father’s words in my head, ‘Cry, then move on. It doesn’t solve your problems.’ I sigh, my breath rattling in my chest like a spray paint can.

I grab my bag and put the tranquilizer gun in it.

One good thing about being a Lycan is our sense of direction is second-to-none. Even in a dense, unmarked forest in the middle of the night, I know exactly where to go.

As much as I want some time to myself to process just what happened, I need to go back and make sure that Ramon, Alyssa, and Hannah are okay.

I break out into a run, thankful I packed trainers instead of just sandals. I dodge low-hanging, branches and rocks jutting out of the soil that I hadn’t cared about when I was shifted. This was hardly the first time I shifted, but this was the first time my blood raged within me so hot with territoriality.

That entire encounter could’ve ended a lot worse.
