Chapter 26: Holding My Ground

“Thanks for coming by and keeping me company today. You could’ve done anything with your off time,” I say as Roxy heads to my front door.

I try to memorize the sound her boots make on the linoleum and the cadence of her walk.

“It’s not like this put me out, you know. I like hanging out with you; besides I went to the gym and Muay Thai practice early this morning. Not much of a night owl anymore.” The beautiful, intimidating bodyguard shrugs and smiles.

“That’s fine by me, I can’t say I’m for the club scene anymore either,” I admit, feeling a bit anxious.

I hope she doesn’t think I’m boring for not going dancing or hitting the bars.
