Chapter 38: Family Secrets Revealed

I rush down the stairs of the office, not bothering to wait for the elevator. I need air. I barely remember bursting through the door that leads out onto the back terrace until the sun hits my eyes, blinding me temporarily as they adjust from the interior light.

“Mack? Bubbles, what's wrong?” That velvety, but strong voice pulls me in like a current.

Roxy's dark eyes are wide in worry as she rushes to me. She's wearing her typical dark bodyguard suit with earbuds and sunglasses. Her thick black wavy hair is slicked back into a professional ponytail.

“Mack, are you hurt? Do you or anyone need help? Please tell me the situation.” Roxy doesn't demand, but she does press. I understand this has to come from her training.
