I opened the door as silently as I could so I wouldn’t wake her if she had already fallen asleep.

“Hey grandma!”

Ah, I guess not.

“Hello, little one.” I smiled at her as I shut the door of her little doll-like room.

“I thought you had forgotten to come say goodnight.” She pouted as she sat up on her bed.

I reached for the switch on the wall to turn on the light. “I would never do such a thing.”

She blinked sharply at the burst of light that flooded the room. “You’re a bit late though, I almost fell asleep.”

“How can I make it up to you?”

“You could read me a bedtime story tonight!” she exclaimed with grin on her face.

“Of course, why not?” I replied.

I walked over to her shelf and visually scanned through the books that sat neatly arranged on it. “What story would you like to hear? A one of the classics?”

“No, not really.”

“So, which one then?”
