Chapter 10: Going to the Medic Wing

The luggage droids released the Higgins’ possessions, and in the neighboring quarters, the Greenbergs’ did the same.

“We’re home,” Dannon said to Alayna.

“Finally,” Alayna said.

As Dannon expanded one of the bags, Alayna grabbed his arm. Liquid seeped into her jumpsuit pants.

“Dannon,” she whispered. “I think my water just broke.”

He dropped the bag, and gestured toward the door.

“What are we doing?” He screamed and put his hands on his temples. “Go to the medic wing.”

He made a call on his wrist communicator.

“Dr. Moses,” he said. “Alayna’s water just broke. I’m bringing her there now.”

For a few seconds, they stood in an empty, quiet hallway until another doorway unsealed. Bekah tumbled out with Judah coaxing her to hurry.

“You, too?” Alayna asked.

Bekah nodded, and in a few moments, after pushing through dozens of dome inhabitants, they approached the sign. Hospital, it read in several different languages.

Dr. Moses greeted them inside.

“You’re here!” He exclaimed. “I’ll have the PA come and take care of the Greenbergs, and I’ll show Alayna to her room. If you men will stay in the lobby, that’d be great.”

He pointed toward a series of hovering seats. Alayna’s heart beat faster than normal. Sweat lubricated her palms.

“She’s gonna get here,” she whispered to Dannon.

As they progressed down the hall, nothing prepared for the hall, no one could have warned her that Austyn could be the only one born in her suite tonight. It would be a birth like no other anyone there had seen before. That is, except for maybe Dr. Moses. He typed in the code, and the pentagonal door opened in its jagged split.
