Chapter 24: Blood Sample

Story’s wrist communicator vibrated.

“Grandfather is calling in,” she said.

“What is it, Grandfather?” Story answered.

“I see what’s going on down there,” he replied. “I cannot let you begin courtships with our enemies.”

The excitement on their facial expressions dissipated. A light flickered on from the hallway, and the group in the holding unit squinted into it. Max extinguished the live program. They would be infringing on something semi-private had they continued, and something more urgent demanded their attention. blinked until their eyes adjusted. Dr. Moses filled the doorframe. He slumped forward. His eyes misted.

“Is everything okay, Doctor?” Scion asked.

“Are the girls alright?” Alayna questioned.

He nodded, and said, “The girls are fine. I was given orders to take blood samples for DNA tracking.”

Collective groans rose from everyone in the holding unit.

“Seriously?” Scion demanded. “I’ve worked for you since you came here.”
