Sevir moved his limbs now and then. He didn’t know why this time was different. He could hear everything, as always, added with an undercurrent.
True to the phoenix’s words, this time around, his development was big. He could feel his back heavy and his hearing expand far out. He could hear three tribes, right down to the dragon king’s sound of breathing.
He remembered his father’s words about the closely packed tribes in the area. The three tribes were two cat tribes, and one bird tribe. Or two. He heard two of them in one place. Maybe the twin birds were together.
Since it was easier to move his limbs, he tried to sit up again. The world was brighter than usual and the back if his eyes throbbed. Far away, he could see a snake moving between the trees, its eyes on him. In between, all was a blur.
