Day Twelve #8

The gun used by Inis had been one among the advanced guns that used the energy crystal based ammunition.

It shot out a single beam of energy that tore a hole through the monster and left behind parts around the wound that had been burned up.

Inis examined the effects from above as one monster fell down to the ground and had died just like that. 'Hmm.. these are quite brilliant. I wish I had one of these back then.'

The Dungeon Era was a time where people had started to prioritise gaining skills and artefacts over using guns.

The guns that were available were relics of the past and were ineffective against many types of evolved monsters of the first and second realms.

A gun was very useful if used well in the dungeons or when a dungeon break happened since it was a way to let ordinary people be armed with them.

They were quite useful for beginners that entered the lowers ranked dungeons but they could not be completely relied upon.

Firing a gun inside a dungeon could easily create more problems than solve them if they made too much noise and attracted more monsters.

It did not help that many in the beginning of the arrival of the dungeons had believed that using guns would help them cheat their way through the dungeons and gain experience quickly but had died inside after attracting too many monsters to their location.

They started to be distributed to those that still wanted a last resort inside of the dungeons or were kept for the defence of outside of the dungeons.

The last resort was usually reserved to those that were more influential or had enough currency to be able to purchase one.

How they used it depended on their situation.

Some would choose to keep their bullets for when a perfect opportunity presented itself in battle like being able to open fire upon a monsters eye or weak point.

The other option was to have one to end their own life to prevent further harm and suffering inside of the dungeon.

When the dungeon breaks did happen, it was usually the result of a dungeon becoming overcrowded and not having any challengers inside for a long time so it released a large amount of them into the world.

Any forces that lacked the status as an evolved dungeon hunter needed a way to at least combat the threats so they were the ones that were mainly given guns.

There were some gun enthusiasts that had collected those guns whether they were replicas or newly developed ones to help better deal with lower level monsters.

Inis was among them who had a small supply thanks to her status and wealth that came from being one of the best dungeon hunters around.

She was able to get some practice using different types of guns so she was very familiar with how to properly aim and fire the gun in her hand.

It actually seemed a whole lot easier to fire compared to the older models and the effects produced by a single shot had shown how dangerous they were compared to the guns she had experienced.

It caused her to admire the dead body from above before taking aim towards another one below that had been alerted to her presence. 'This energy gun is truly very effective for dealing with all kinds of creatures from the dungeon.

Sadly there must be a limit to its power… it would be difficult for the energy to penetrate through bigger and tougher creatures of a higher realm. This is already good though, the burned flesh shown from below has shown me that it can be useful.'

There were all kinds of creatures with different abilities and among them were those that possessed regenerative abilities.

Some had weak self healing but others were actually very advanced to the point that it made it difficult to deal with them.

If a monster could not be injured for too long before healing from its wounds then it would leave far less time to make use of the results of causing that injury.

An example would be slicing the leg of a large monster to make it drop to a level where its vital parts were within the reach of her.

The monster would be able to heal its injured leg and would regain its footing to be able to avoid being targeted in its vitals if they healed fast enough then they would be able to launch their own counterattack.

It had been found out by more experienced dungeon hunters that the most effective way to deal with the regeneration was to use fire or something else on the wound but not everyone had a fire ability or access to such things inside of a dungeon unless they had come prepared and knew such monsters were inside that dungeon.

Inis had once had to experience the difficulties for herself and had to deal with all kinds of monsters that possessed different annoying abilities to the point that her methods of dealing with them had been deeply ingrained within her.

Having to repeatedly slash such monsters then follow up with a way to halt the regeneration was annoying to do against just one of them and was even worse against many more so it required a lot of practice to effectively deal with them without suffering badly.

Having the energy gun available was a way to help with that if she could use it well enough in those kinds of situations.

A grin appeared on her face as she continued her practice with it and then the monsters below had either been scared off or had perished. 'This should be enough practice with this for now. I need to conserve the rest for when it is really needed.'
