Day Thirteen #5

Even when the whips were brought out and there were people beaten, Inis remained hidden watching every detail.

She could not yet decide whether she wanted to involve herself with what was happening before her eyes but that did not stop her from sticking around longer.

With more information gathered, she would be able to know more about what was happening and whether she wanted to take any action in the end.

The humans she watched displayed very little power almost like their power was limited to being ordinary humans or those that had only trained their Aether Energy to a very low amount.

It suggested that they were lacking in power and were likely incapable of obtaining a decent training method that would allow them to reach anywhere close to the stages Inis had.

It became more apparent to her that the opportunities she had been given were far above anything other had.

It made her feel like her situation was not so bad after all.

She was not yet aware of how difficult it was for humans to train such methods and how costly it was to be able to gain resources to speed up the process.

She was not aware that the weak humans before her had to do so much just to get their hands on a method to train their Aether Energy.

The large group started to move further away from the place they had attacked until they finally reached a larger fortress.

It was located in a location where there were large mountains located behind acting as a natural fortress which had been built onto.

The large mountain walls behind were very difficult to climb up over and anyone that attempted to do so would fall straight down to their deaths.

The walls built around the mountain fortified the defences more making it the kind of fortress where there was only one main way to enter and exit with there being few locations that could be sneaked into.

The downside to such a fortress was that it was the type that had to give it their all to defend if it meant keeping everyone inside safe.

If the only entrance was blocked then it was even more difficult for those inside to flee so they would have to fight with their backs against the wall or they would have to break through the enemy forces blocking them in order to secure a passage to escape.

The walls were well fortified and protected compared to the previous settlement Inis had visited.

She observed from afar as the large gates were pushed open to allow entry to those returning.

Cheers came from within as if they were welcoming back the brave warriors who had came back from a hard fought battle.

The captive lowered their heads and were pulled inside to face the crowds of people who had various different responses towards them.

There were some that had been unable to see who they were looking for among those returning so they came to realise that some had died.

It resulted in those people venting their anger upon the captives that they blamed for those deaths.

The captive received poor treatment from the time they were captured and arrived inside the walls which had shown each of them that their future was filled with much suffering.

Their previous lives and status meant nothing after they had been reduced to nothing but slaves.

The gate was slowly closing as the last people had come inside and Inis watched on from far away where she was safe from being detected.

Her magenta eyes were searching each part of the gate and walls surrounding the insides for the slightest flaws.

The smallest flaw in the structure of the fortress or with those patrolling would become her way of entry leaving them vulnerable.

Inis had already seen their use of energy based guns so she had to be extra careful not to make any miscalculations.

They were still dangerous enough to be able to harm her and even kill her if she had underestimated them even a little.

More time had passed as the sun started to go down.

A rabbit was hopping around innocently as it went over to nibble on a leaf, its ears were perked up and it listened carefully for any signs of trouble nearby so it could flee.

It was careful to protect itself even when it was during a time when most others would let their guard down.

It showed that many creatures and even the weakest among them had to develop their ability to survive in their own way when faced with so many potential dangers.

All of a sudden, something had come flying towards it and pierced through its body as it was pinned to the ground.

An arrow pierced its body killing it quickly enough that it was only able to let out a small sound before dying.

A small figure came out from the cover they were hid in which was Inis who had went to search around the area.

She had gotten quite hungry during her time waiting for the sun to go down so she began hiding her presence waiting for a prey to pass by.

Inis walked over and picked up the rabbit while removing the arrow from its body.

Her gaze went back further towards the location she had come from then went back to the rabbit in her hands. 'Hah… another uncooked meal.'

Inis did not wish to draw attention to herself with a fire as she cooked her prey so she had to settle with eating it raw.

A sharp knife was taken out as its body was skinned to remove the fur which she found bothersome to eat then her teeth sank into the flesh of the rabbit.

The taste of the blood mixed in with the raw meat which was not as satisfying as a cooked meal but her body did not reject it as much as her mentality did.

It was strangely satisfying to taste due to her being a monster and being able to eat just about anything but there was still the feeling of rejection of eating it like that which came from her previous human mentality.

As she continued to bite into it, more blood spilled into her mouth and trailed down her lower jaw dripping downward.

It was a savage scene that lacked the mannerisms of a human that she once was as she slowly satisfied the hunger within her.

Once she was done, she went to search for a nearby water source to clean herself up a little.
