Night Thirteen #2

Once Inis landed, she looked down the other side quickly to see the other side of the wall and what was hidden inside.

Many wooden and metal structures were built around the walls to fortify the walls and provide a way for others to gain access to the higher points.

Further inside was many homes that had been built and some basic patches of land for other purposes like growing crops.

The housing was very basic looking compared to the amount of effort that had been put towards maintaining the walls.

Inis thought to herself. 'This place.. it does not look like a proper human settlement. Something must be hidden within.'

If it was an ordinary settlement then it would be more likely that she would see traces of the slaves that had been dropped off or some others chaotically moving around within but most of what she had seen was very ordered and structured.

The guarding and watching over the walls followed a routine and it was very likely that those living there had to follow the rules too meaning that they could not be out once the sun went down.

It could explain why the captive slaves had not been spotted since they could have already been claimed but it did not make complete sense for them to be taken in so soon.

They would require strict teaching in order to prepare them for their future so that they did not have any kind of will to resist.

It meant that they would have to be kept somewhere, be kept out in the open or there was already a place for them to go to.

If it was the third then it was very likely the captive slaves were needed for something specific in a place she could not see so easily from above.

Inis looked further below and saw the supports which crossed over each other underneath the top of the wall that is used to observe from, she heard the noises creeping closed a little at a time so she held onto the edge and lowered herself down.

She slowly swung her body towards the support beams landing below and started to move along it as she climbed towards another.

Inis was very careful to stay out of the view of others and hid among the beams as she slowly climbed and slid down between them on each level until she reached closed to the ground.

Her feet touched the ground and she hid behind one larger beam listening to the sounds around her trying to remain quiet.

Her magenta eyes continued to look around as she occasionally poked her head out.

Once she had seen and heard nobody around her, she ran quickly towards the nearest opening near a building closer to the walls before going through a narrow and dark path.

There was very little noise that came from around her as she passed the places where people were living within so it showed that more people living there usually went to sleep or kept quiet once they returned to their homes.

It could also show that the houses that were occupied could mainly belong to those patrolling and protecting the walls from threats.

Inis kept moving from one place to the next trying to gain some useful information and figure out what her surroundings were like.

Each time she came across someone or a group patrolling, she made use of her smaller body to curl up and hide being something bigger than herself until they had went away.

She swiftly navigated her way through the area taking in what little information she could gain from her experiences until she finally came across something much more interesting.

She had finally reached closer to the back of the settlement where there was no wall protecting it except a large stone wall.

What had caught her interest was not the wall itself but how the humans had dug into it and built several structures going deep underneath it.

There were lamps hung on the walls further in poorly lighting the way and Inis could pick up on some faint clanging noises that seemed to echo from deep within.

As she looked upon the entrance, her magenta eyes became serious.

She had already had some idea about what kind of things she would witness once she entered but she took a step back and took a quick breath to prepare herself.

Since it was being guarded by a patrol like the walls, she could not rush inside recklessly especially when she did not know the layout.
