Night Thirteen #9

While Inis was getting herself back into a more comfortable position lying down, she started to speak up again. "Since you have decided to stay in here.. tell me a story of some kind."

The voice of Xeni was hesitant as she asked. "Um.. what kind of story?"

Inis thought for some time before voicing her biggest concern in the present. "I want to know about any stories that may have been passed down about the previous era or the beginning of this one."

There were many parts of the past that had most likely disappeared into history while other parts were embellished to suit a certain narrative but Inis still wanted to hear about it.

She was still not fully aware of the outside world and how the world turned out after the defeating of the final dungeon on earth.

There was curiosity towards how the world had come to change since then and how the many races came about.

There was no way that the present situation could have resulted in there being a situation where human settlements needed to be built up to keep out a large number of monsters.

The number of monsters existing on earth was frighteningly low especially since many monsters ended up being exterminated the moment they created any kind of commotion.

Either monsters and many other races that had hidden on earth in many parts had been given enough time to repopulate at a rapid rate or they just suddenly began to appear from some unknown source.

Xeni went silent for some time before asking. "Do you want to hear from the very beginning?"

Inis replied quickly. "Mm."

Xeni coughed to clear her throat before beginning her long story. "This is something that has been passed down within my tribe and I believe many others have similar stories too. It may seem quite unbelievable at first but it is something passed down from our ancestors.

It began a long time ago not on Earth. It is believed that what happened on Earth had taken place on each races place they called home. We call these places our origin while Earth is the place started to suddenly appear on.

How to explain it.. it is believed that we encountered the same thing as this place did but we were unable to overcome it. Most were either too divided or lacked the ability to adapt in time before the dungeons swallowed our origins whole."

Inis was very intrigued by such a strange concept.

It was the first time she had ever had the opportunity to learn more and talk to the residents of the dungeons.

Everyone saw them as hostile and quickly learned that everything in the dungeons was a great threat.

No matter how fragile or friendly some may have seemed, there was always times when dungeon hunters fell prey to such deceptions.

Whatever came from the dungeons were the enemies of Earth and its inhabitants.

Nothing would ever change that unless the dungeons were brought to an end.

Inis knit her brows and thought to herself. 'Huh.. so if we failed to conquer every dungeon and let them spread to unimaginable levels then it sounds like the dungeons themselves would swallow our world and the inhabitants whole possibly to become another dungeon.'

Xeni took a short break allowing for Inis to let the information sink in before continuing. "It is said that our ancestors were stuck in a constant cycle of violence, death and rebirth.

Their sole objective and purpose was to kill all who were outside of our origin and protect the core of the dungeon. If you did not know what the core is then that would be the ruler of the dungeon.

The residents of the dungeons were trapped in an eternal state of fighting, dying and resurrecting fighting new enemies. There were times when their leader was defeated which followed with eternal darkness for some time.

Unfortunately that short period of peace and rest returned to its original state once they awoke back in the dungeon again to face off against new foes. That kept happening until the time that they were finally free from the dungeons grasp.

It is believed that the final dungeon being defeated had triggered a complete collapse of the dungeons that had appeared on Earth. Anyone trapped in their eternal torment was released from their confines but were unable to return to their origin."

It was a strange phenomenon that took place but there were many points that seemed to make a lot of sense.

The monsters and other races needed to have some kind of origin but their homes were all most likely swallowed up by the existence that was the dungeons.

One world ended due to the dungeons appearing followed by another after that as the threats of the dungeons became larger.

There was some kind of strange force that was constantly maintaining and recycling those dimensions that were the dungeons.

Each of them were basically recycled worlds that were constantly being restarted and used for a purpose.

The overall cause was unknown but once the dungeons had been defeated, all of the resources and life forms inside the dungeons had started to appear spread out in different parts of the world that had suddenly united into one giant continent.

As Xeni went into greater details explaining how many different races struggled during that transition period and how there was major conflicts between them and humans due to the prejudice the humans had against them all.

It was natural for there to be a massive amount of distrust among the many races and humans which was something that could be solved so easily.

The many intelligent races that regained their free will may have made some attempts but it was not enough to prevent further conflicts.

Even as some came to accept some races and came to an understanding later on, there were others that had too great of a cultural difference that meant they could not get along.

If there were other situations that came up preventing the races from coming to an understanding then a major concern was usually territory and resource disputes.
