Chapter seventy

LILY

I think River's confusion ebbs away moments before I can dial the security pad on the door with my shaky hands and unfocused eyes because he quickly catches up to me and pulls me away, caging me by him until we are back in his opulent living room.

My heart stammers a little, the wild beating dying down just for a moment before picking up again. With a shaky sigh, I nod absently to whatever he is trying to tell me, my mind making no effort to make sense of the words he breathes near my ear.

When I calm down enough to wedge through the muddled thoughts and think through the aftermath of my panic attack that almost took me out of my sanes, I gently push at his chest to get some air into my lungs.

"What's wrong?" River asks, his eyes wide and tracking every movement mine makes.

By the look he gives me, I know this is not the first time he has asked me that same very question in the last minute.
