Chapter 30

Evangeline

Training finally ends at around 6. Thank god we only end so late today, since its the first session.

I told my brother's I wouldn't be home for dinner, so I stopped by the mall to have dinner. While I was there, I also picked up something special for the boys.

I quietly unlock the front door and limp into the foyer, ensuring my keys are safely tucked away so they don't jangle. Raucous laughter and electronic blasts can be heard from the living room.

With another cautious glance around, I stealthily sneak into the kitchen with silent steps, burying what I bought at the back of the fridge. Hopefully, they wont find it here.

I quickly dart up the stairs and into my room, dumping my bags in the corner and grabbing my towel, pyjamas and underwear before heading for a shower.

"Chris. What time did Evangeline say she'll be back home?" Lucas glances at the clock. A frown creases his brow. It's twenty minutes to seven.

"Six thirty-ish." Chris mumbles with his mouth full of popcorn.

Asher snorts. "Swallow it, Chris."

The living room door cracks open. Evangeline slips in, wearing pyjamas and a pair of fluffy, striped socks that kiss her mid-thigh. So fucking cute. She's also holding something behind her back.

She beams. "Look what I got for you guys," she says by way of greeting. Lucas smiles fondly and pats the spot next to him. She skips over, keeping her back from sight and plops down in between Asher and him. Asher slings an arm over her shoulders.

They both of whom peer into the fancy, dusky pink paper bag with gold accents around the logo. 'Lavender Bakery and Patisserie'.

With all of us watching with intent, she slowly pulls out a glass jar filled to the brim with meringues, and a box of what appear to be pastries. "Surprise!"

Evangeline's Cupid's bow lips curve into the biggest smile ever. "Mariam told me how much you guys love these."

Everyone's brows raise. Chris is the first to speak.

"Aww, aren't you the sweetest?" He gets up and walks over to the couch. Evangeline tilts her head up, staring at my twin with her gorgeous gray eyes.

"Hmm?"

Instead of answering, he places a kiss on her cheek. Evangeline looks stunned out of her wits, cheeks turning a lovely shade of pink. I guess none of us have ever done that before.

Lucas follows suit, planting another kiss on the opposite side. "Thank you."

Asher looks a little hesitant, but tentatively presses his lips to the side of her face, blushing furiously. "Yeah. You didn't have to."

My brothers turn to look at me expectantly. Evangeline averts her eyes. My face heats. The memory of what happened during the weekend flashes in my mind.

Evangeline straddling my chest, grinning as she rests her chin in her hands.

Damn.

I quickly lean over and brush my lips against her cheek, savouring the feeling of her skin on my lips.

Evangeline smiles sweetly and begins passing around the box of pastries.

A twist of guilt mixes with the ecstasy in my chest. I know this is wrong. I shouldn't have feelings for my stepsister. Hell, our parents are getting married in two days!
