Chapter 214: Not the Kind to Run

Ellis POV

The suitcases lay open on the bed as we filled them like a life-sized game of Tetris. There was a limit on what we would be able to take to the new place and there were only so many suitcases in the house, so we had to pick and choose carefully.

I helped Olivia fold her clothes as much as she would let me, but she mostly insisted on doing it herself.

“I’m okay,” she insisted, “my arm is broken not—okay it’s broken, but it doesn’t hurt. It’s just a little, you know, awkward.”

“If you say so,” I said with a smile.

“I do.”

I didn’t dare contradict her, the look she gave me chilled me in a way I’d never thought possible. She really wasn’t the sweet, silly girl I’d once known. Something had changed, but I wasn’t sure what, even if I had a good idea how.

Olivia was just packing her sexiest set of underwear, giving me some hope for the future, when my phone rang.

“Take it,” she said, not even looking up.

“I’ll be right back,” I said, heading for the door.
