Chapter 138 : Unforeseen Disaster

I woke up in a panic. I felt cold and sweaty. I couldn’t remember my dream, but it had left me losing my senses in fear. My body was still shaking slightly. I reached over instinctively for Jaxon, but my hand hit his pillow. He wasn’t there.

"Jaxon?" I called out softly. I tried to assure myself it was just a dream, but I still felt panic that I might alert some strange killer out to hurt me. I kept glancing at the door expecting Marino to come through. "Jaxon?"

I carefully got out of bed and moved to the bathroom, looking for him, but the space was empty. Everything looked undisturbed. I looked in the closet in a pathetic worried moment. I was relieved to find no one there. I tried to think more rationally, but jitters still ran up my spine.

I crept to the hall and down the stairs. The whole house seemed quiet and empty. I couldn’t hear any of the maids or kitchen staff either. I didn’t see any of the normal guards around. Where was everyone?
