Jaxon
"Can I help you?" the woman asked in an annoyed tone as she turned around and faced me.
When I looked at her now, it was obvious that she wasn't Dana; they had the same hair color and build, but this was not the woman who'd kidnapped my children. I was flooded with disappointment as I realized that our lead hadn't been much of one after all.
"Hello?" the woman asked again, clearly feeling more agitated with my lack of response.
I didn't know what to say. I'd been so sure that we would find Dana that I hadn't prepared for this outcome. I felt sick as I realized this was another day where I wouldn't get to see my kids again and take them home. Dana was still out there somewhere, and it felt like the universe was laughing at me with this look-alike.
I felt myself deflate as I shook my head. "Sorry to bother you. I thought you were someone else."
"Whatever," the woman scoffed before she flipped her hair over her shoulder and carried on her way down the street.
