As soon as Jaxon left for the day I started feeling a little uneasy. Nothing had changed. No one else was around. I knew the guards were still outside, but still. I felt like I was going out to battle without my armor on.
I wanted to take the children to the park but I kept thinking about the man that I saw. I kept picturing his face and wondering if he followed us home. Did he know where we lived? Was he just waiting for me to come to the park again so he could strike?
I had driven myself into a silent panic in under a minute. I took a deep breath and rolled my eyes at myself. Why was I becoming so paranoid? I knew Jaxon was probably right: we had been through a lot. Even those people I was supposed to trust had betrayed me.
I knew it wasn’t out of the ordinary to feel a little extra anxious but I couldn’t keep living this way.
I watched the kids playing on the floor and pulled out my phone. I quickly searched my contacts and found Lauren’s number.
