There was a strange vibe as soon as I walked into the house. I noticed that not only were all the outside alarms on but most of the ones inside were on as well–the ones we only turned on when we were headed to bed. 


Sara had most of the lights on as well. I found her holding her knees, leaning against the couch while the children played with legos and playdough on the floor. Cameron looked more than pleased to be shoving as much playdough inside of the little lego tiles as he could. Sara didn’t really seem to notice. 


"Hi, how are you?" I asked, trying not to sound as worried as I felt. 


"Daddy!" Camilla screamed, followed quickly by Cameron’s version which sounded more like "Dawdy". 


I leaned down and scooped them up in my arms. 


"Hi kids! Did you have a good day today with your mommy?" I asked, glancing back over at Sara. 


She was smiling now and looked a little more normal. She had moved her legs down into a criss-cross position.
