I held onto Jaxon until we were safely locked in the house. He didn’t pull away from me and let me hold his hand as we moved into the living room.
The kids followed along with us and continued to play on the floor together. It was clear they were still rattled, but they treated it all like a game. I was glad to see they were more resilient than me.
"Why don’t we get ready for bed?" I suggested with a shaky voice.
The kids looked a little sad, but they didn’t object. I picked up Camilla and let Jaxon grab Cameron. I stayed as close to Jaxon as I could when we moved up the stairs.
I was a little hesitant to go into Camilla’s room alone, but I didn’t have a lot of choice. Besides I knew Jaxon had locked up and I could set all the alarms and cameras in Camilla’s room. I knew he’d do the same for Cameron.
"Are you okay, sweetheart?" I asked, leaning down to kiss Camilla in her crib.
She nodded slowly.
"Was that man going to hurt us, mama?" she whispered.
