As I drove home from Carlito's, I considered the promise I'd made to my daughter. I was happy for Camilla. I knew what young love looked like. After all, I'd seen that same expression of dizzying happiness on my own face when I'd started my relationship with Jaxon.

I meant what I'd told her. Michael was a kind and intelligent man. I trusted him with my own life, and if I was going to trust anyone other than Jaxon or me to be around Camilla, Michael would be my choice.

However, that didn't by any means guarantee that Jaxon would agree. I gripped the steering wheel as I pondered how I was going to broach the subject with my husband.

While I was certain that most families encountered similar situations where a mother needs to gently break such news to a father, I came to the grim but unavoidable conclusion that we weren't like most families.
