“Thank the Goddess,“ Tabby says as we walk out of the courtroom, “Even I was surprised at the sheer number of lies Sam told on the stand! I was terrified that they would believe him!” 


“Not if I could help it,” my husband responds grimly, “I would never, ever have allowed you to take the fall for something you not only didn’t do, but were actually the victim of! I’m just relieved that the judge saw through his nonsense.” 


“Well, I have to say, it didn’t hurt that Sam went absolutely insane on the stand,” I reply, “He was scary! Did he do that often, when you were with him?” 


Tabby looks upset at this question, and I immediately regret asking it. The last thing I want to do is upset her. She has been through more than enough over the past twenty four hours. 


“He did,” she says with a sigh, “But you know what?  I realized something. When I was telling everyone what he had done to me, I came to an important realization.”
