Chapter 31: Penn Isn't Who Brooke Thought He Was

Brooke wondered where they were going as Penn took her out of the city. She didn’t venture out into the country too often, not having a car. She had her license, but she couldn’t afford the insurance on the car. In their complex, a lot of the cars were vandalized.

She’d chosen her living situation based on its nearness to public transportation. It worked for her.

Now the buildings and the noise of the city were being left behind.

While she’d packed, Penn had had a quiet phone conversation. She didn’t eavesdrop, but she’d been curious who he was talking to. Was someone getting some place ready for her?

The tree leaves were in their full fall glory and she was glad that the sun hadn’t set yet so she could see them. It would be gone in less than an hour.

“Where are you taking me?”
