Chapter 30: Brooke Isn't Sure

Brooke blinked at Penn. She hadn’t had any idea what he was going to say, and part of her thought this, but having Penn say those words out loud hit her like a hurricane. She’d been mulling things over in her mind during the drive back to the apartment. Her driver had looked scary, but she hadn’t been afraid of him. He’d seemed confident and able to take care of himself.

“What?”

“You’re in danger.”

She took a moment to swallow that. She'd never been in danger before. “Danger?”

Some instances of the last week came to her. The man in the library asking for her. Feeling as if she was being watched. She shuddered. “Why?”

Penn leaned forward, resting his forearms on his thighs. He’d rolled up his sleeves while she’d poured her wine. Her eyes traced the line of the veins on his arms. A stray thought had her wondering why women found them sexy. She was one of those women.
