Chapter 48: Moment of Truth

Penn knew the security breach could be the killer. He didn’t know how the man had tracked down Penn, but that didn’t matter at this moment. He had people to protect. He had children to protect. Most importantly, he needed to get Brooke to safety. She would be the killer’s number one target.

He snagged her arm and dragged her towards this house.

“What?” she said.

“Please don’t question this today. I need you to get inside. There’s a room at the center of the house I need to get everyone inside it.”

He looked in the direction of the bouncy house, but Brenda was already herding her kids toward the house. Why today? Why now? Did the killer think he was vulnerable here?

Penn had already checked out the house from every angle. Unless the killer flew a drone overhead, you couldn’t see into the yard from any vantage point in the area. His father had been paranoid, but Penn didn’t have time to wonder why.

Everyone needed to get to the panic room.

“Where is it?”
