Chapter 2

"What are you doing here?" He asked strictly.

"I...I …" She really was trying her best to speak, but it seemed that words were deep in a bottomless pit that she couldn't reach, she only kept staring like a lost cat.

"You, what? I repeat what in heaven's name are you fucking doing in my office?"

He asked even angrier than the first.

She felt her whole body become paralyzed, she didn't know what to do, as she started sweating uncontrollably.

She opened her mouth but still, nothing came out of it, instead of talking she stared at him with her lips parted.

"Are you deaf or did the cat get your tongue?" He asked fuming, he really hates it when people ignore him it makes him feel belittled.

"I ..am..he..re, sorry I mean that..I...is…"

She stammered, not really knowing what to say out of the shock of knowing she can't get the job again.

"Get out!" He shouted, stamping the desk angrily.

He felt irritated by her stupid stammer.

She shivered at his voice and anger, she immediately stood up heading to the door,

she imagined how disappointed her mom will be when she shares the news,

No this can't be, she has to apologize, maybe he'll forgive her.

She turned instantly and said looking straight at the neatly marbled floor, she dare not look at him on his face,

"Sir, I'm truly sorry for my attitude earlier, from the depth of my heart, I'm sorry it was a terrible mistake, sir, please forgive me." She said, still admiring the marbled floor.

Just then, they heard a knock on the door.

"Come in," He said, taking a glance at the door.

The door swung open and a young man entered.

"Bro!" He smiled and rushed toward Damien.

Damien looked up and smiled lightly.

"You came?" He stood and engulfed him in a hug.

"Sure, I missed you," He pouted, disengaging from the hug.

"I missed you too, but I'm in the middle of an interview now," He smiled and Camilla stared at him shockingly.

'So this rude-headed man knows how to smile,' She wondered.

"But…" Dylan whined.

"I think you should wait for me till I'm done please," Damien pleaded.

Dylan nodded sadly, but his face lit up almost immediately.

"After your meeting, we can hang out together right?" Dylan pleaded to give him his best puppy eyes.

"Hmmm" Damien heaved silently.

"Alright," He finally said.

Dylan's face brightened up instantly.

"I'll be waiting for you outside," He smiled and left.

"I'm in no mood to hang out," He murmured.

Camilla just stared at him speechlessly.

Camilla just observed everything that happened right in her presence.

She noticed that the man before him was ruthless and cold outside but he was nice and cool inside. She didn't care.

She has a lot of things going on in her mind.

Damien glanced at Camilla and sighed remembering the way she slapped him and her confidence as she did it, then his words rang in his head. He can't go back to his words. She has to suffer.

He looked at her from head to toe, and he felt the urge to take her right there, but no, she had to suffer.

"Okay, take your seat" He mumbled as he sat back on his swivel chair, eyes back on his laptop.

Camilla quickly stands up and takes her seat before he changes his mind.

Damien brought out the last resume on his table, displaying Camilla's qualifications. He couldn't believe his eyes. After interviewing close to twenty participants, he just saw what he was looking for.

" Are you sure you are the owner of this resume?" Damien interrogated.

"Yes, it's mine, please give me chance, I promise I won't disappoint you," Camilla said, making puppy eyes at Damien.

"You can start tomorrow," Damien said, fixing his eyes on his laptop while typing.

'Did he just accept my application?'

It was like a dream to her. She had to confirm it.

"Sir, what did yo… you…?"

She asked in utter amusement with wide eyes.

"I don't think I'm in any FM station, am I?"

He asked, looking at her fiercely.

"No sir… I meant tha..t…"

She was interrupted by his loud voice which made shivers run through her body, and she took a step backwards.

"Enough!" He shouted, "You're starting tomorrow and you must be aware that I hate people who don't value their time,"

She was about to reply when she heard his thunderous voice again.

"Now out!" He shouted again.

'Does he ever get tired of shouting?'

She said inwardly.

"Thank you, sir," She let out, as she turned and left.

He smirked at her as she left.

"Celebrate all you can darling because you have no idea of what I'll make you go through," Damien smirked, "I promised you that you are going to pay for slapping me, so don't celebrate too much girl, you don't know what is ahead of you," He smiled, before picking up the project he was working on earlier.

*****

Camilla left the office in anger and headed downstairs but paused when she saw the same janitor who directed her earlier, he was coming her way.

"What's up girl, how was it?" He asked.

Camilla nodded absentmindedly.

"Are you lost?" He tapped her repeatedly.

"No, what do you say?" She feigned a smile

"Are you okay?" He asked again.

"Did you get the job?" He repeated the question.

"Oh Yes, sorry," She smiled, "I just couldn't believe that I'll get the job," She explained.

He smiled and congratulated her before leaving.

'I'll endure anything for the sake of my mum because I know he's surely planning something. Of all the people that came today, he didn't see one to pick but me,' Camilla thought.

"I don't tolerate lateness," His voice rang in her head.

"I'll have to be here early, so he doesn't get excuses to talk trash," She smiled determinedly.

******

Camilla went to a grocery shop and bought a few groceries for herself and her mum with the last dime she had.

She arrived home very late and sighed tiredly before pulling off her shoes. She entered their apartment and switched on their lights. Lo and behold, right in front of her was a terrifying sight to behold.

"Mum!!!" She screamed tearfully and ran towards her, throwing all the bags she was holding.
