All or Nothing At All

His hands were toasty on the coffee mug as he waited for it to cool off. His guest seemed to be anxious about him as she touched his hands wrapping them around him. This brought him back to looking up across the table at the young woman. She smiled with a soft expression, seeming to work to comfort him, "You seem like you were lost in a time long since passed." He chuckled, moving his mug to the side, "I was. Just the first time that we met."

"That was a long time. 10 years?"

"Just about. A lot has happened since then."

She just agreed. She had done a few things with herself since Hanson made the deal with her and freed her from his binds. "Hanson, what's changed in your life since I've last seen you?" He cracked a smile thinking of all the changes that have taken place, "I met someone who was a young boy who transformed into a strong man who I recognized as someone who surpassed his teacher and decided to follow him on his path."

"That young man who helped you?"

"Yes, him."

"He must have done something amazing to do that."

Hanson chuckled thinking back on it. With a sip, the coffee was finally at a good temperature. It warmed him as it passed from his lips to his stomach. "My young student changed so much to become my young master." Marie's face contorted a bit in her confusion. Her interest peaked, "How did that happen?"

Hanson took a deep sigh taking himself back years, "That young man who helped me capture you grew up. He turned 18 and was struggling to find his place in the world so he joined the Army to help give him some direction. He promised himself four years of active service where he had three deployments and began working for a secret group that just so happened to run into my path once again. In Baghdad, I was chasing a man by the name of Dr. Kelly Donner who had been working on some very illegal drugs that would mutate creatures unwilling to feral form in hopes that they would rise up and take back what he believed was taken." With his hands back around the mug he took a deep breath as he told his tale.

Baghdad was never a really friendly place to Americans to begin with. Getting information was hard for someone who was clearly not from the area but Hanson, with the assistance of a reliable informant, was able to track him down to a section of town where Dr. Donner was supposedly hiding out. The US still had a strong presence in the area forcing him to work very diligently to not interfere with any military operations in the area while keeping himself safe. His search brought him to a more barren portion of the city where the homes were a bit more shabby than others. From information gathering, his job switched to surveillance. He had to identify his man before he would be able to move in.

It took days of hiding in plain sight before he saw Dr. Donner show himself in public. He was able to identify which of these huts he hid in. With solid confirmation, it was his time to make a move but someone else was also interested in the doctor. Hanson was able to get into the small hut but there seemed to be nothing there. He went from room to room but no one seemed to be there. He saw someone enter the home. His only option was to try and find something that would help him. There had to be something in this hut that meant something. He looked around finding a small pile of papers in what looked like a makeshift office. He started collecting a few of them when he heard something move. A rock or something skidded across a section of a wooden floor. With his guard up Hanson went to investigate but as he passed through the doorway he was clocked in the face with the back of a fist. As he hit the ground something grabbed his wrist twisting him onto his stomach. He tried to fight until he felt the heavy metal held to the back of his head. A voice began demanding answers, "Who are you? And what business do you have here?" Hanson still tried to fight back looking for a weakness in his grip but he was unable to find one. The gun to the back of his head sealed his cooperation as it was jammed hard into the soft spot at the base of the skull with a demand for answers.

Hanson relaxed the best he could as he answered, "I am a contractor." The voice was authoritative, "Contractor for whom? Who do you work for?"

"It was issued to me."

"What does it entail?"

"The capture of Dr. Donner."

"The capture… Who are you? Give me a name!"

His arm was twisted causing a grunt, "Hanson! I'm called Hanson!"

The man paused, "Hanson? The hunter, Hanson?"

"I've been called a hunter, yes."

The grip on his wrist was released, giving him freedom. He rolled over to see a man with desert clothes and a cloth covering his face. The man removed the cloth and the goggles revealing his face. His hair was short, and his face had changed from the muscle mass but this was the young man Hanson saved and let go to live his own life.

"Wow, so you ran into him in the desert of all places." Hanson chuckled, "That's what makes it so bizarre. He went to live his own life and ended up dealing with the same monsters there." With another sip, Hanson shuffled in his seat, "One year into his service and someone found out that he knew about the weird monsters after an incident that he took control over so they assigned him to a special group he was in charge of, designed and crafted to remove these threats from the operating areas of the US Armed Forces. He made Staff Sergeant in his time before finishing his last active year and going reserve."

"What happened with Dr. Donner?"

"Ah, yes. Since we found each other we worked together on the rest of the job."

Dr. Donner had used the hut as a secondary location that led to a tunnel that he and a few of his mutated staff dug out. They built an elaborate base under the desert where they could work in as much peace as they could to continue their research and implement a plan to spread this concoction they had created to creatures to mutate them into the monsters he dreamed of them to be. Hanson was honorarily inducted into the specialist group to help assist in bringing in Dr. Donner but he didn't want to go willingly. The firefight killed one member of the specialist group, three of Dr. Donner's assistants, and Dr. Donner as he tried to destroy everything. A few items were recovered but not enough to where a countermeasure could have been made. Those assistants that were captured were not given any other information other than how to do their jobs. The trail died with Dr. Donner but at least the threat was stopped.

Hanson returned home the next week with his new boss. Together with the savings that were amassed during his service time, they got a building, started their business, and began working on contracts again.

"It's been 6 years since we started working together again and I've been impressed by every job we do. He learned so much more than I could have taught him in that time, accomplishing so much more than I had in the 30 years I had been doing it myself." Marie seemed to understand Hanson's reasoning, "That's why you let him take charge."

"Yes, the student had surpassed the teacher. So we help one another now."

"That sounds like it's been a trip."

"It has been and I would love to do it again. Even through all the rough times."

The waitress came back holding their breakfast. Each plate was put before them as she winked them an "enjoy your meal" before heading back to another table. Hanson began eating while Marie shared her stories. After Hanson freed her she began working with the owner of the club until he passed away. In name, Hanson owns the club as it was left to him. Hanson understands the creature's nightlife so there was nobody more qualified to provide for it. His job, however, prevented him from being there enough to properly run it so he trusted it with the one who he saw make the most progress since she arrived, Marie. It's been a large success and tripled in size since then. She keeps herself together by working as one of the escorts there. Occasionally a human will wander in who understands how their world works. Surprisingly, it's a strong fetish in this town to be drained by a succubus.

The two got to enjoy their reunion. As promised though, Hanson returned to the club to meet with the staff again. The people who remembered him were glad he returned. Those who were new were glad to meet the fabled man who owned the place. He was treated to whatever he wanted while he was there. Being who he was meant pleasant conversation as people worked to clean up and get ready for the night to start again. Hanson's weekend was made. The glowing support brought to him was just what he needed to revive himself. A trip down memory lane to bring him back to his roots of where he was today, a cross encounter with an old friend, and the boosted support of a well-made decision brought a youthful glow to him.

The afternoon rolled around before Hanson returned to the hotel. His plan was a quick nap from all the excitement before continuing his plan for the weekend. His bed was welcoming as he laid down to rest. The covers were inviting as the blackout curtains lowered over the windows giving him peace from the sun. His smile was strong as he faded to sleep.

Another alarm went off waking a slumbering bear that had taken the time to rest and recuperate from a night out on the town. Hunter rolled out of bed standing up to the reflection of the sandy beach throwing light into his face. It woke him up quickly but blinded him back onto the bed. His eye had to adjust quickly to the bright light while he tried to stand and move around. He sure struggled with keeping himself up as he tried to shake his body awake. With just a light nap of a couple hours, he wouldn't need coffee to get himself moving. His first thing on his list for today was an energizing group event similar to yoga or tai chi.

He honestly thought about skipping it but for what? He would have nothing else to do but wander around. Besides that, this was planned for him by Hanson and Juliet. They chose and paid for it hoping to help him with his recovery. He couldn't say no to that. The lobby was livelier than it was this morning. He noticed a familiar face off in the distance. Cooper seemed to be speaking with the front counter about something. He seemed kind of distraught. If he needed help he knew he could ask for it so at this time it was best to just let him take care of it himself.

The area where he was supposed to go was near the beach. The hotel had a deck area that walked down to the beach with enough space for almost any type of event. When it was not in use they would plan their own activities just as this tai chi class. He arrived a bit early to see the teacher laying out the number of mats needed for those who were going to show up. With nothing else on his mind, Hunter offered to help. The woman smiled with a "thank you" but refused as she could not ask a guest to take their time off to work. With Hunter, all he really knew was work. Always doing something productive. This time, he did take her to thank you for his offer to find a bench nearby to wait for others to show. As he watched her laying down mats he questioned if she was human or if she was a creature that he just could not place what she was.

Trying not to be creepy about showing up early he averted his eyes to the beach to watch the people who had made their way down. There were a lot of families out on beach towels with large umbrellas up. Each one seemed to be a different color scattering a lot of variety to the white sand landscape. He watched as people swam. A few boats were out on the water with water skiers and some parasailers. A few sailboats were enjoying the wind and the travel up and down the coastline. One person seemed to attract his attention though. She seemed to be walking up the beach towards the deck but was still a long way off. He tried to get a better look as she continued to wander around this one certain area. A man ran up to her handing her what looked like a popsicle. Once she turned around long enough that he could see her face he saw that it was Juliet working her seduction on one poor unsuspecting person. She was free to do as she saw fit for the day so if he was captured and forced into a deep nap from the draw of a succubus, she was allowed to do it.

Looking back to the deck, the mats were down and a few people started to show up. A couple were actually staff from the hotel. The classes were open to the staff so they could help keep themselves peppy for their jobs through the afternoon and evening. It made sense. Hunter could tell that the people working were putting their all into it. Working at a resort where people come to relax can be a very demanding and very stressful job, ironically. With access to the amenities, it could promote team unity while assisting the staff. There he is, still stuck in work mode.

As more and more people began to show up Hunter took a mat for himself near the end about halfway back. A couple were left empty as people didn't show. The class itself was great though. It was a mix of slow movements with some sudden changes to quick movements then back to sweeping slow. For only half an hour it really did a lot. The teacher at the end was willing to work with a few people she saw that needed help after it was done so they could learn it and bring it back to continue on their own. As people headed out Hunter rolled up his mat placing it carefully out of the way while the teacher got the others. He headed down to the beach to walk in the sand.

He doesn't get to enjoy the small things very often like the feeling of sand between his toes. With the chance to do so, he took what he could. He didn't really leave the area where the deck was. His plan was simply to enjoy the saltwater air before heading back inside and enjoying the rest of his bar. Sitting in the hot sand was wonderful against his muscles. From the hard work to the extreme heat, they began to expand, relaxing the fatigue. He leaned back, getting his back while he shut his eyes from the sun. A shadow came over him blocking the light. Looking up there was a woman standing over him. He couldn't see her face with how the light was but she was someone he had not seen before. He sat back up to see that it was the instructor from the deck.

Her orange hair was up and back in a ponytail. Her clothes were khaki short shorts and a hotel logo white shirt. She seemed rather interested in him this time. Hunter, being the gentleman that he is, asked first, "How can I help?" He knew what she was going to ask for from the start. He was ok with giving her an extra hand but she knew that she was caught, "Well, since you offered to help lay out mats can you help me carry them back inside?" It was a simple request to which he happily obliged.

Being only 20-some mats, this was an easy job. Most were stacked around where Hunter had placed his to start. Some had bands on them to keep them from unrolling which he undid to wrap more of them together. He was able to get 16 of them himself leaving her with an open arm to get doors. They walked in a side door, down a concrete back hallway, to a storage room marked with "employees only" in large red letters where a lot of the outdoor spa supplies were needed. They found an open spot near some extra tables where their mats fit perfectly. The lady made sure that the door was closed behind her.

"Thank you so much! It would have taken me five trips to get all those." She was extremely grateful for his assistance. She was the only one who ran that class so no one else from the hotel really knew that she was out there unless they walked by. The staff who joined her class all had to get back to their job and get set up so they were unable to assist. But this nice person who offered to help from the start was also willing to help at the end. She continued to beam at him with glee, "If there is anything I can help you with let me know!" Hunter nodded with an odd thought in mind, "I do have one question for you."

"Sure! What is it?"

"What are you? I just keep trying to figure it out and I just cannot identify you."

She was very puzzled by this question but he continued, "Are you a siren? Mermaid? Something like that? I keep seeing aquatic animals." It became clear to her now. He was someone who understood what she was but just could not identify her species, "Ah, now I get it. I'm a water nymph. Similar to a fairy but a bit different." His curiosity was satisfied, "That's what you are!" The two headed back out the door to the slope by the beach heading to the deck. Instead of the path down they took the sidewalk back to the front of the hotel. Now that she knew that he was ok within the mystical realm of beings she was much more open and friendly with him.

She followed him to the lobby where they stood off to the side of the front door by a table against the wall. She seemed to be having a good time talking with him. She had to ask, "When are you free?" It was a simple question that raised a few more questions. He answered however, "I think I only have Thought Revitalization in a couple hours but I think I'm going to miss that. I had it done yesterday and I left feeling funny."

"Aww, too bad, It generally helps a lot of people feel better."

"Well, some adverse effects happened and I'm good."

He started towards the elevator to head back upstairs to his room to relax and possibly nap again. The young lady tapped him, getting him to turn around, "My name's Sarah. As thanks for helping me, I want to try and help you. I know the guy behind the counter and might be able to get you moved to a bigger or better room." He scoffed, "I doubt that honestly."

"No! I really can. I mean, within reason. I wouldn't be able to get you one of the rooftop rooms."

"I'm already in one of the top-floor rooms."

She just went into stunned silence. He did not look like the type of person who would usually take one of them. He continued, "The group I came with has the four on the top floor already so we're good." Her jaw began to drop as she tried to comprehend this. He stepped onto the elevator with a smile, "Do you not believe me?" He held the door open for her to dash her disbelief. She snapped herself back jumping on with him. He hit the top floor bottom and away they went. The door opened to the long hallway. He took to the right, grabbing his keycard. One quick swipe and the double doors clicked open. He walked in like it was nothing, inviting his guest with him.

She released a "wow" as she began to take in the room. Hunter went to the bar grabbing the bottle he started the day before, "Have you ever seen one of these rooms before?" She shook her head, mouthing her "no". With a full glass in his hand, Hunter started working on the brown liquor contained in it, "Well, now you have. I'm not taking you away from something you need to be doing am I?" Sarah was back to being able to make sentences, "No, I am done for the day. I don't have another class until tomorrow morning." She began to wander around the lower level knowing that the upper level was more personal for guests. She didn't want to overstep her boundaries but wanted to take full advantage of the offer.

She wandered around the floor reaching the balcony with the glass pool. She seemed to lose her mind at the thought of being above everyone else. He let her open the door to head outside to take a look. She immediately went to the edge looking over, quickly falling backward from vertigo. She got herself back up moving back to the edge. A little slower this time and she was able to look down. Hunter made his way out to the deck looking around while she enjoyed the view. Coming back over she looked like she was having the time of her life, "This is amazing! How can you afford this?"

"A lot of hard work and a lot of risks."

She wandered over to the pool putting her hand in it. She seemed rather intrigued, "I knew these had pools up here but I didn't imagine they would be saltwater pools. Can I take a swim?" Hunter seemed to be enjoying her energy, "Sure, just knock when you get back from changing." He was presumptive with her. He looked over just as she dropped her shorts to the ground and started taking off her work shirt. She was already wearing a one-piece swimsuit that seemed to fit her a little too perfectly. He choked on his drink from the shock of her undressing. As he coughed she laughed at him, "I'm a water nymph. You think I didn't come prepared?" She had a wry smirk on her face before she jumped into the water. With one breath she was able to move from one end of the pool to the other surfacing and grabbing the edge.

She seemed to have a good time just with that. She began doing laps while Hunter watched how quickly and seamlessly she moved through the water. After a couple minutes, she hit the side closest to him laying on her back to just float in the water. She took a deep breath enjoying the water and the weather. Hunter took the chance to sit in the chair looking out over the water. He saw what looked like clouds over the water. Once they caught his attention he looked at his phone. Looks like there was a chance of some weather coming in a few hours. Looking out over the water it looked to be a bit more than just a chance. Being close to the summer months storms will start to pop up coming from Cuba and make landfall with some strength behind them.

Even if it did rain, the plan was still to enjoy the time there. A good storm was always calming. The pitter-patter of rain against the ground and windows was a soothing sound. A low roll of thunder just added to it. Maybe this would be an added bonus to his vacation. With Sarah occupied by the water, he took his chance to get changed himself. With a fresh pair of shorts, he dipped himself into the hot tub with a pleasurable groan as he sunk himself in. The bottle was brought with him and took its place by the water just within reach for a quick refill. It served its job well over the next couple hours as Sarah swam around the pool talking with Hunter watching the storm roll in. The clock rolled around to just before five as the clouds began to block out the sun more and more covering everything in a light shadow.

The hotel staff started picking up items from outside and locking down tables and chairs. The beachgoers packed up their things as well as getting out before the rain started. A couple surfers were enjoying the waves as they started to pick up until it got to be too much. Lifeguards closed down certain sections getting people out of the way. Everyone really knew what they were doing and how to plan it. It seemed just as everything was closing up that the light portion of the rain started. The overhang from the hotel covered up the balcony where the rain wouldn't hit them unless the wind hit just right. It quickly got darker but there was still enough light to be visible.

Neither seemed to be bothered by the change in weather. The only thing that bothered Hunter was that his bottle ran out. He had more than he thought yesterday leaving him with an uneven amount. This mild inconvenience made him get up to grab another bottle. He changed his selection to a mildly flavored bourbon. With the new bottle opened he was ready to keep going. Sarah was still enjoying her time as she sat on the edge of the pool looking out at the rain, "From the land or from the sky, I love the water."

"Other than this, what is it that you do?"

"This is it. This pays my bills and rent."

"Then you do pretty well for yourself?"

"Yup. This place was made to accommodate but you really have to know your stuff to be here."

They went back to being quiet. Hunter kept himself in the hot tub while Sarah sunk herself back into the water keeping her head above water. Her hair was just long enough that the other ponytail was in the water with her. The silence was disturbed by the click of the door opening. For Hunter, a familiar face walked in wearing a very revealing sky-blue bikini that just hugs her, "Hope the water's warm because that rain is cold!" Juliet was one of the people who were chased off the beach by the storm. Her wet feet echoed across the floor over the sound of the rain coming in from outside. She caught the attention of both people outside. She hit the open balcony doorway finally realizing the second person there. She wasn't expecting there to be someone, "Oh, am I interrupting?" She seemed rather concerned about her intrusion.

The strange woman kept herself in the pool while Hunter answered, "No, you're fine." He seemed rather nonchalant about it. Red flags were popping up left and right for her. She would have to play dirty to get what she wanted from this situation. She slowly got herself into the warm water turning to the pool with her legs straight keeping her butt above the water line. She laid her head down on her arms looking at the woman across from her, "My name is Juliet." She started off cheery with her. The strange woman returned her kindness, "My name is Sarah. I'm an activities instructor here at the hotel."

More questions started popping up left and right as she thought about how to approach the fact that Hunter had brought up a water creature to his room. Hunter could see the gears turning in her mind as she tried to distract him by swaying her weight back and forth. He finished his drink leaving just the ice. With his warm hand, he put the glass against his palm to check the temperature of the glass. It was considerably cold with the extreme difference that the water made. His own plan started formulating but was much more simple than Juliet's. Speaking of, her mind started working, "You're an instructor? Where'd you get to meet this strange guy?"

"He was in my tai chi class."

"Ah, and do you always let your students bring you back to their room?"

That was his queue for his own plan. "Hold this for me, will you?" With no further warning, he placed the cold glass on the bare skin of her lower back. The instant cold caused her to stand up with a loud squeal. Hunter grabbed the glass as it started to hit the water laughing. The ice was still good and no water got in the glass. Perfect for him to pour himself another while he got to preach a little bit, "Juliet, you know that we are kind to our guests. Why are you giving this poor woman such a hard time?" She turned herself around still standing trying to take an authoritative stance, "Because you don't know if she's dangerous!" With the glass on his lips, he raised an eyebrow trying to figure out where she was trying to go with this. She continued, "She could be trying to seduce you so she can drown you and eat you."

That's where it made sense. She could tell that she was a water something but not specifically what. Hunter went on to clarify that, "Water Nymph, not siren. Zero harm unless she knows how to fight." He looked over at her wondering if she was going to give an answer to if she could or not. She seemed transfixed on the other woman who came up. Juliet took her defeat sitting down across from Hunter but was still able to keep an eye on Sarah while she seemed to live in the pool. The awkward silence was filled with Hunter ignoring the awkward silence creating small noises as he continued to enjoy his bourbon. He would trade eye contact between the two of them while they waited for the other to move first. As long as they were quiet and not causing issues Hunter didn't care. He was still able to enjoy the rain as the storm rolled in bringing more thunder and lightning with it.

One freak strike hit close enough that the light was blinding. They could hear the static before the boom hit only a few seconds later shaking the water they were in. Juliet shot up, turning around and falling into Hunter's lap. Sarah damn near jumped out of the water. Hunter sat there with his glass in his hand, Juliet on his lap, and very little ability to see. He was looking right where it struck, temporarily blinding him. It overloaded his eyes for just a moment where all he could see was white. Shapes and features slowly came back but the color was still gone. Looking around he was able to confirm that he wasn't blind and that his vision was returning. Once he was comfortable he took a sip before putting the cold glass against Juliet's back making her jump back over to the other side

He began his wait for the color to return to his sight. He just stared off at the wall on the opposite side of the balcony. Juliet seemed distraught from the strike being so close. Being in water did not help her. The thunder didn't seem to get any closer after that. There were a few low rumblings that came in from the ocean. Sarah seemed to be able to relax again in the water enjoying the patter of the rain on the overhang above them. The rain did begin to pick up, making more noise that flooded into the hotel room. It was perfect.

Juliet seemed to be hesitant about relaxing again. Storms really never set well with her. Hunter didn't know about the fear but he could tell that something was bothering her. With a sigh, he put his own type of magic to work. He relaxed enjoying the air around him. A sense of calm began to wash over the area. Sarah went from her light pacing to a floating relaxed, "This is nice." Juliet soon followed, sinking into the warm water. Her mind began to relax allowing her to think clearly, "Hunter." Hunter sat back up looking over at her as she put her head back, "Yes?"

"I think it's been about 24 hours."

"Ah, right. Let me get the thing."

Hunter had to get out of the water to grab the collar she was talking about. He placed it on the table by the stairs up to the bedroom. Picking it up he thought about what he wanted to say when he removed it. Looking over it he remembered back to the conversation he had with Marie. He mumbled to himself, snapping himself back, "Succubus are very different from humans…"

He returned to the hot tub with the collar in hand, opened, and ready to be reattached. He looked over at the woman sitting across from him relaxing in the water, "You ready?"

"Almost."

She moved closer to him standing in the center. With a sheepish look, she asked, "There is one more thing I want to do while I am still not bound. Will you help me?" He was rather confused but offered his help anyway, "Sure, what is it?"

"When I feed on someone, specifically when I kiss someone I get a flavor of who they are. This may be too much to ask but I've wondered what you taste like for a while. I was wondering, would you allow me to try?"

She wanted to feed on him. Just a little bit to get a flavor of who he was. This was a big risk. This could be her using a chance to kill him to get out of her contract. But was she someone who would even do that? He seemed rather distraught about it. He looked down at the collar rubbing his thumbs over it before looking back at the woman standing before him. She immediately saw his hesitation backing off, "I know that look from you. I knew it was too much to ask. Just… Just put the collar on." He looked back down at the collar playing with the hinge before putting it on the side of the water. He looked back, "I'm going to trust you to not overdo it."

His answer was a shock. Juliet just kind of stared at him in disbelief, "Uh, have you ever been kissed by a succubus before?"

"I have."

"So you know what happens?"

"I'm aware."

She had to make sure that he knew what he was allowing. He knew the risks with a succubus more so about their powers and how they affect the human body. Even so, he was willing to trust her. With one last nod from him, she took that as his ok. She moved closer to him gently holding his head up by his chin with her fingertips. With just a little lift she moved his head up. Leaning in, she took a deep breath herself. Only inches away she closed her eyes. He did the same, closing his eyes ready for whatever was to come. He heard her whisper, "I'll try and be gentle." before he felt something soft against his lips.

In an instant, his breath was taken away. His heart rate spiked, and his leg muscles tensed at the sudden shock. His face went numb to any feeling. His arms fell limp to his side as he was left helpless to fight back. He felt her hand against his chest as she pushed herself back letting him go. His eyes opened with a gasp of air. His breathing became heavy as he leaned forward looking at his feet through the water. His muscles were burning as though he just finished running 10 miles at sprinting speed. Everyone else watched as his face flushed red. He could feel it warming up as well. With one heavy breath, he lifted himself up to put his head back exposing his chest to the cool air. He kept his eyes open focusing on the ceiling to keep himself together.

Sarah moved out of the pool to his side watching him in almost horror at what happened in just a short amount of time. Hunter continued to swallow while he calmed himself down. It didn't take him long to get to where he could hold himself up again. It was painfully obvious that he was still suffering a bit yet he claimed that he was going to be ok. He calmed down enough that his breathing was paced. He was still taking deep breaths yet he was able to take control of them. He had to wipe the sweat from his face before he could dunk his head in the hot tub's water. As the breeze from the storm hit his face it helped cool him off faster.

Juliet took a seat across from him keeping her head down. She listened to him struggle to recompose himself with tears forming in her eyes. She knows what she can do. She knows that it hurts when it's just abrupt like she did. She continued to listen as his breathing went silent. Looking up he had taken a deep breath, holding it in, before he slowly released it out his mouth. After that, he seemed to be back to decent. He grabbed the collar from beside him holding it in his hand. Looking at it he remembered why this was so needed. But, he gave Juliet a free day. He gave her one item on her list she wanted to accomplish. He had no regrets about confining her back to how she was but there was one more thing he had to do before he did. "Juliet." He grabbed her attention. Even though he used a soft voice she still jerked at her name being called. With the collar in his left hand, he looked her in the eyes, "You got what you wanted. How do I taste?"

That was his only question. She wiped the energy out of him and he only asked how it was for her. This was the man she had been working with for most of the past year. With a smile on her face, she gave him his answer, "Bitter Black Cherry."

"Bitter Black Cherry?"

"Yea, it's like a black cherry which is a little tart already but there was another bite behind it. It's not bad. I'm sure I could grow to like it."

"Ok, that's enough of that."

He knew what she was trying to do and seduction was not allowed. "Come here, chin up." She moved over. She didn't want to but she had to. Ideally, before he invoked her real name. Reluctantly, she lifted up her hair exposing her neck to him. She could feel the collar against her skin as he got it positioned. She heard him talk to her, "Ok, suppress your power as much as you can so this hurts as little as possible. Let me know when you are ready." She relaxed her body and her muscles, focusing as hard as she could to get herself as close to humans as she could before it clicked. She nodded with her eyes closed, "Ok, do it." She felt the familiar metal wrap around her before there was a loose connection. She heard Hunter mumble to himself as he checked to make sure that it was going to connect correctly. He murmured, "I don't want to do this to her."

With a solid click, it was on. Her body twitched at the initial reaction. Unlike the first time, it was just a dull pain that slowly faded to the familiar feeling that she knew before. Something close to feeling empty. Hunter leaned back to his spot with sad eyes staring at the metal collar. She took her spot back letting her body adjust to it again. It was interesting to her, how in just 24 hours she was able to get back into the habit she was before she met him. Her eyes burned at the thought that she was no longer free because of him yet she was responsible for what happened. It was conflicting. She disliked him for the reminder that she was once such a powerful creature now bound to be subservient to a human. Yet, even in servitude, he was fair, open, and honest with her in every action they took.

The collar was adjusted slightly by her to make sure it didn't catch on her hair or get in her way with her neck movements. Once settled she went back to enjoying the hot water. Hunter leaned back watching the woman across from him return to the state he'd known her to be. One thing they both forgot was the other woman. Sarah was on all fours out of the water leaning near the hot tub. The two seemed to pay no mind as they went back to mind their own business. She coughed getting their attention. She sat on her feet while she spoke, "Pardon the intrusion. What the hell was that?!"

Silence fell over everyone as the two tried to figure out what she meant. She did not mind continuing on her quest for her answers, "Why did you kiss him and he almost died? Second, why did you put that collar on her? What is happening? I missed something and I am confused!" Juliet and Hunter's relationship had become so second nature that from the outside looking in someone would not understand. Hunter moved himself to look at her better while she kept herself comfortable. "Ok Sarah, let me know when you get lost. She is a succubus."

She gave one hard nod, "Right."

"They drain energy from men to feed themselves."

Another nod, "Right."

"What she just did was that she drained part of my life."

She was slightly cautious, "Ok."

"Now, I gave her permission since she is bound to me until a debt is paid off."

"That must be some debt."

"She's working on it. The collar I placed around her neck is a restrictor."

"A what? What's that do?"

"It limits her powers. That collar is specific to myself and my partner Hanson. She cannot try to seduce or feed off of us otherwise it will bind her powers causing pain much like a shock collar."

She flinched, "That seemed a bit cruel."

"Agreed, but that is the situation she got herself into. With the collar off she can use her powers as she wishes. With it on she requires my permission. This allows her to feed and keep herself in good health."

"I'm following so far. What about you?"

"What about me?"

Sarah shuffled in closer, getting as tight as she could before it got to be too weird for her, "What is it that you do that you can bind a succubus?" Now he understood. She didn't understand his role in this. Knowing this he would be able to clarify it for her, "I am human. 100% human with no special powers other than specialized training and knowledge in the field of creatures, monsters, and otherworldly beings. I am also, and let me know if you don't understand this, a contractor." The general term for a contractor was similar to a demon hunter but considered to be more professional and respectable. They did similar duties but the contractor was associated with a higher class of services that allowed them the contracts they took and access to the jobs that the underground offered up. Taking up the title of contractor meant a lot in the means of risk. There are a lot of creatures in the world who believe that they meddle too much and that the matters that they tend to police are better left to the creatures and clans of the species.

Sarah seemed to understand what a contractor was. This also explained how he was able to afford the top-floor suits, the expensive liquor, and the amenities that the hotel offered for their "special" guests. She still had a few questions though, "That makes sense and all but now I'm just curious. Are you two a thing?" Hunter about snorted his drink while Juliet almost fell into the water. She was the first to defend, "No! He's my boss! I don't think I could even think about that." Juliet went on the offensive, "What about you, huh? Coming back to his suite, what's your angle?"

"He was polite so I offered him some company."

"I know what that means!"

"Sorry little succubus, but I'd be more interested in you than him."

Hunter just about lost it. His eyes darted between the two before looking away at the wall behind him. He had to hide his smile and it took every little bit of self-control to not bust a gut laughing. He returned himself to the conversation with a dirty look from Juliet, "My abilities may be suppressed but I can still feel sexual energy." He was caught. His mind slipped at Sarah's comment bringing a mental image that he could not control. Gave him a good laugh though. Sarah didn't seem to know when to stop though, "I may have said that wrong. Yea, I'd be more interested in her but the whole succubus thing might be bad for me. Energy draining is not my thing." Something in her mind clicked, "But you are restricted and I know succubus can hold back… Hey, what are you doing later today?" Without a single moment of silence, Juliet shot her down with just a hard "no". This was weird enough as it was. Continuing it forward would only make this worse.

Sarah slunk off to the pool to relax in the salt water. Hunter continued to enjoy his drink watching the two girls. This was the most entertainment he had all weekend and it was worth it. Juliet was not often flustered but Sarah seemed to strike a nerve. Watching Juliet lose her cool over something small was just amazing to watch. She always tried so hard to keep herself collected, which oftentimes she did, but every so often something would come along that would throw her off.

Things really had changed since they first met. For Hunter, that felt so long ago. He shuddered at the thought of what happened after the museum. With one last gulp, he finished the drink in his hand feeling it burn all the way down. He grabbed the bottle realizing that it was empty. Had he really gone through the whole thing and not noticed? He went to get out of the hot tub but his legs refused. His body began to realize how much he had consumed. His vision slightly blurred as a warm sensation fell over him. The bubbling from the hot tub began to feel different. This was new. With the failed attempt to stand up, he just got himself comfortable again. His mind drifted off to the sound of the rain as it picked up again.

His world faded off into the sound. Occasionally he heard something invade from the outside. The other two seemed to carry on a conversation in his absence. His mind woke him up enough that he realized that he should not be in the hot tub any longer. With no words he let the girls continue with their own conversation. The clock he passed said that it was almost five. He slugged his way up the stairs fighting his legs to get to the bed. He just let himself drip dry on the way up, falling into the bed still covered in water. The ceiling fan was still on, giving him a breeze. His body quickly cooled off but he still felt warm. The rain echoed off the stone floor filling the entire room with the sound. He could still hear the girls on occasion talking and laughing. He swallowed on a dry mouth, opening his eyes, whispering to himself, "He's just my boss…"

His mind continued to fade in and out until he heard the door close. The click was enough to jar him back. Sitting back up he was able to compose himself. It may not have been the alcohol that got to him. It may have been too much heat. Once he was cooled off he seemed to be able to get back to a functioning state. Looking over the balcony he was one lady in a blue bikini still wandering around his room. She noticed him looking over from the railing. She smiled with a wave, "Hello there sleepy! Sarah had to go but I'm still here."

"You're welcome here."

He pushed himself off the railing heading back to the bathroom. The open bath area was impressive. With all the space the room was built with both a shower and a separate bath designed with a smooth feel to it. The bath itself extends from the left wall out with a smoothly curved stone bottom glazed with a white cover to be as comfortable as possible while still providing enough grip so the occupant does not slide when there is water. The shower was recessed into the wall with a small lip flowing seamlessly into the tile to keep the water contained. The large glass doors slid smoothly with no noise. His bare feet made the only noise until the water turned on. He kept it semi-cold but comfortable enough that he could wash off the feeling of the chlorine and saltwater from the hot tub.

Halfway through he removed his shorts, throwing them over the top with a wet flop on the bare floor. Turning his back to the water he looked at his hands. He mumbled to himself again, "Just her boss.." He repeated it over and over trying to get it into his own head that he was her master, he was her employer. With his hands gripped in a fist he clenched every muscle in his body gritting his teeth, "But I promised myself!" He slammed the side of his fist against the wall with a metallic sound. He pulled his hand back to see two gold and ruby rings on his right hand. He yanked them both off, throwing them over the top and letting them land wherever. "And then there are those things." His relaxing vacation started to turn into a vexing situation. They would be leaving tomorrow evening so he would have to keep himself together one more day.

He felt cleaner than before as he shut off the water grabbing a towel. He walked over to the double sink near the door. Looking into the mirror he could see that the stress was getting to him. Some dark circles began to form under his eyes. They were very mild but they were visible to him. What he really needed right though were some fresh clothes. He stepped out of the bathroom to the rain flooding his ears with sound. Looking around he seemed to be the only one there again. He leaned over the ledge finding that there was no one else there. With his time alone he grabbed some nice clothes. Nice dressy pants, a pressed collared shirt in a light blue, and a jacket to go over it. The rain was the only thing that possibly dissuaded him from going out. Yet a little water was never an issue for him.

He took the elevator to the lobby finding Cooper walking towards the elevator. Hunter waved, getting a smile back as they passed. He must have been returning to his room for a while. He seemed rather exhausted for someone who was supposed to be relaxing. Heading outside the balcony was protecting him from the rain so far. Just looking around it looked like there were not a lot of people being active. It was perfect for him. He grabbed a nearby taxi to take him away into the city for a couple of hours to have some fun of his own. He had a few stops planned for today that would keep him busy for a few hours at least.

Back inside the hotel Cooper did return to his room. He grabbed one of his small notebooks quickly scribbling something in it before throwing it back in his bag. He seemed rather distraught over something. The entire day something was escaping him. He was bothered by the news that a hotel staff member was pronounced dead at the scene after having a seizure. The woman was still very young and very skilled in what she did with no medical history that supported this. How he caught wind of this was even stranger. He overheard a conversation between two staff members who responded mentioning that it was strange. This piqued his interest, sparking an investigation into it himself. The area where she died was left with a haze of anger and hate with an undertone of sorrow. He tried to find a trace of her in the realm between life and death but there was nothing from her. With no traces that he could find it became a physical search to find something.

His only lead was her schedule of who she was supposed to attend to that day. The last name on her list was a woman by the name of Gretta who was staying at the hotel however it seemed that her appointment was moved to another specialist as the woman was dead by that time. The name before that was of his own boss, Hunter. Every fiber of his being wanted it to not be true but he would have to probe into it just the same without actually having Hunter notice his intentions. He's a smart man who can notice when someone begins questioning him. Was it better to just let this one go? There was a foul stench in the air about this.

He stood before Hunter's door to his room. With a couple solid knocks he made sure that it echoed through the place. With no answer, he tried again. Still no answer. Was he not there? He didn't see him on the way out. It felt like he was still there. Heading back down the hallway he caught Hanson leaving his room, "Hanson, have you seen Hunter?" He seemed a little confused by the inquiry, "I have not. Do you need him?"

"I've got a question for him."

"I will see where he is."

Hanson grabbed his phone dialing Hunter's number before Cooper could tell him not to. He began making faces trying to stop him but the other side picked up. Cooper only got one side of the conversation as Hanson worked his odd magic, "Hello sir, I have a question for you. Where are you at?" He paused waiting for an answer. "Ah, so you are out for the evening. When do you plan on returning?" Every moment of silence was torture for the poor kid. He tried everything he could to try and get Hanson to quit before Hunter got suspicious. His attempts failed when Hanson continued, "Very good. No important reason. Cooper was wondering if everyone had enough free time to possibly sit down for dinner. Since you are out for the evening I will let him know you will take a rain check for a later date. Do take care of yourself."

Hanson hung up, turning to Cooper, "He will be out for a while but now I want to know what you wanted with him." He completely forgot about how astute Hanson was to his surroundings as well. His blood ran cold as he tried to fathom how to tell Hanson. He kept quiet trying to make words while contorting his face to make it all come together. Hanson landed a solid hit on his shoulder as he placed his hand upon it shaking him free, "Whatever it is, you can tell me." This helped, amazingly. Cooper was able to calm himself and speak his mind clearer, "Hunter may not be all who he used to be and possibly may have killed someone because of it."

Hanson was taken aback by the declaration that his master was a murderer. Cooper quickly jumped to his own defense, "I'm not saying that is for certain but here's what I have. Yesterday a woman died under unusual circumstances. She happened to be Hunter's thought rejuvenation expert. There's been a foul stench in the air around where she died that's lingered far too long for a natural death."

"And the young master was the last person to see her?"

"I believe so. Hunter checked into his appointment and the next person who tried was denied and referred to someone else."

"That is unsettling but shows nothing."

Cooper began to feel rather uneasy, "Yea, that's where being who I am helps. When someone dies their being does not immediately leave. It lingers in purgatory while it sorts itself out before ascending beyond. She was taken by force and is gone. Just gone. And the smell left behind. Something very unnatural happened to her and I am very concerned that Hunter was involved in some way."

Hanson was disheveled, "If what you are saying is true, we both need to tread very lightly and keep a close observative eye on him. While I want to believe that the young master is well, unknowing what happened to him, he may not be." He understood the concern. He understood the need for further investigation into Hunter but kept his high hopes that he was ok in the end. Hanson's plans quickly changed from going out to helping Cooper get a feel for what was going on.

Hunter took his free time to wander around town enjoying the nightlife again. He stopped by a few places from the night before and headed to a few new ones where he got to see some of the sights. He took his time to get away from work for once, to get out and enjoy himself as a person.

Juliet stayed back at the hotel doing her own thing. She enjoyed the food and a few of the late-night entertainment that they offered at and around the hotel. It was strange without the others. She wandered around the hotel for a while until she saw someone familiar stepping out of a cab. His shirt sleeves were rolled up to the elbows. The cab popped the trunk allowing him to pull out two large duffle bags. They looked rather heavy but he managed to handle them both with ease. He nodded to the driver as he took off, noticing the woman looking at him. With a smile and nod, Hunter acknowledged Juliet. He walked in greeting her at the doors as he headed to the elevator.

Once inside he let the bags fall to the ground with a loud thud. The floor below them moved as they landed before the lift began to take them to the top floor. The door opened to the grand hallway where Hunter grabbed the bags making a beeline to Hanson's door. With a loud knock, he echoed it through the entire floor. Hanson opened the door to his master's call to have one of the bags thrust at him. The weight hit him but he stood up against it. Hunter smiled with a fat grin, "And we've broken even." Hansons opened the bag just a bit to see stacks on stacks of bundled bills. In a matter of hours, Hunter had taken his winnings from the night before and multiplied them to pay for the entire weekend for everyone with some to spare.

Hanson was in awe of the amount of money he was just handed. Hunter seemed to be thriving in the accomplishment. With a wave, he saw himself off to his own room. The door clicked open for him. The bag was thrown behind the counter of the bar followed by Hunter himself grabbing a few bottles. Juliet followed close behind him to where she slipped in the door behind him. With the door clicking behind her she made herself known, "So you managed to pay back the entire trip in a matter of hours?"

Hunter was elbow-deep in the bar making a drink, "Yup. I took over a few tables at a nearby casino and exponentially exploded my winnings from last night."

"That's where you went. Had a night on the town."

His mind was still elsewhere. Occasionally he would look up from his work behind the counter to her on the other side. His eyes were still focused on the glasses in his hands. He moved with a sense of purpose as he shuffled through and filled one small glass with a clear liquor of his choice. The other bottles were placed back onto the counter for later. Juliet watched as he took his first drink. With a deep exhale he seemed to relax a bit more. Her want to get the best of her though, "Can you make me something? Not too strong, please."

She didn't encourage his drinking habit and rarely had one herself. Only on a select few occasions. Looking through the bottles and the available items in the fridge under the bar Hunter began a whirlwind of movement. He grabbed a taller glass, filling it with clear something. He moved before she could read the label. He grabbed another clear bottle mixing it before popping open a plastic container of orange juice. He filled it halfway before mixing a blue liquor in, throwing ice on top letting that mix everything together. It was a show to watch him work on something so quick. With one more quick shake, he put the tall glass before her with a straw at the ready. Her first sip was a mix of different flavors that made her lips tingle from the slight burn hidden with the flavors. Her second sip was followed by a gleeful squeal, "This is dangerous."

"I made it mild so you should be fine even if you chug it all down in one go."

"Not going to let that go, are you?"

"Never."

Hunter grabbed his drink walking over to the window opening up the door to let in the night breeze. The smell of the ocean air quickly filled the room spreading to the upstairs section. Hunter found his spot on the couch as he began kicking off his dress shoes letting them fall wherever they wanted to. His shirt became unbuttoned with a flurry of finger movements from his free hand as he really began to sink in. The TV flipped on shortly after to a local news station running late-night programming repeats from the day. Juliet took a seat beside him, putting her drink on the glass coffee table before them.

Hunter went into his mindless mode where he seemed to just fade off into his own thoughts. He did this the night that she was tasked with watching the house while he slept. With the TV low her voice was more than enough to bring him back to reality, "What was it you wanted to talk about?" He looked over with a confused look on his face. She seemed very serious about her question though. She waited politely for him to answer that didn't come, forcing her hand to ask again, "Yesterday, you seemed like you had something on your mind. You didn't get to talk about it so I'm asking now, what was it you wanted to talk about?" Hunter sat still while mulling it over in his mind before proposing his own question, "What makes you think I had something?"

"Instinct, woman's intuition, whatever you want to call it. You changed rather quickly back to a lot of your old self."

"It feels like I have but a lot of things are still missing."

"Talk to me about it. What's got you so bothered?"

The TV was turned off giving them total silence with one another. Hunter shifted himself to face her as best he could while still being comfortable on the couch. His leg was folded in front of him so he could shift himself. With more or less a straight view of her, he began to wonder where the line of too much information would be drawn. How much could he say before he began to cross a line? She leaned forward a bit grabbing her drink in her hands and catching his attention, "Did the memory therapy really work that well?" She wanted to know what was on his mind however knowing his progress was a bit more important at the moment.

His mind seemed to wander back a bit before answering, "I think it helped." His eyes avoided her as he continued his own pattern. Something was really eating at him. It was time for her to begin her own battle. A solid push to get Hunter to open up a bit more. How would she go about this? It was hard enough for her to talk to him. How was she going to get him to open up about something difficult?

His exhale after a sip was a familiar noise that brought her some peace until he stood up to speak, "Maybe you can answer me a question before I answer yours." She didn't ask him a question though. Juliet only thought about how she was going to ask. He continued as her muscles began to tense, "Why do you and the others want to know about what happened while I was away so badly?" Somehow his eyes pierced right through her. This wasn't Hunter anymore. This was something else.

She couldn't avoid him though. Clutching the glass in her hand she looked for comfort in it. Looking down she wondered if her answer was even possible with him looking at her like that. She tried to force an answer as she looked up but was greeted face-to-face by Hunter. He moved no more than a foot away from her while she was looking down. Her whole body jerked, spilling some of her drink on her hand, "Hunter, please stop. You're scaring me."

He stepped back but his face didn't soften any, "My apologies. I still want to know where the curiosity is coming from." She was still cornered by him. There was no way she would be able to get out of his room. Even the atmosphere seemed to be filled with a thick haze. Every other sound seemed to fade into nothing as everything was drained away. Even with his overpowering aura, she muttered her response, "We're just worried about you." Once the words left her lips everything seemed to lighten back up. His face relaxed a bit and he was able to turn away from her to continue his drink.

He fell into a seat heavily carefully balancing his glass in his hand. "Juliet, while I appreciate your concern I feel that you should probably leave me be for a bit." Everything got heavy again but much differently than before. Leaving her drink on the counter she left with not as much as another word. The door clicked shut before Hunter leaned forward in his seat. He set his drink on the table before cupping his face in his hands with a deep sigh. The tears hit his hands as he held his breath trying to calm himself. Finally, he needed air. With a deep inhale he leaned back in his seat again regaining some control. He pursed his lip as he said quietly to himself, "Why can I not do it? What have you done to me?"

Juliet took her leave to go back to her room for the evening without another word. She locked herself in her room until the sun came up waking her from her slumber on the couch. She didn't even make it to bed. Today was the day they left though. She had to get her materials together and get ready to head out. Hanson was his usually prompt self waiting outside with their car ready to take them to the airport. Cooper was by his side shortly after ready to head back. Their weekend was a good time but heading home was what they wanted.

Juliet was next to arrive with her small bag over her shoulder and another case rolling behind her. Her stuff was loaded before she wandered off to get some breakfast. It was a while before checkout so Hunter had time to do what he needed to. Check-out came and passed as the group waited for him in the lobby. Hanson was the one who volunteered to go up and find him.

The top floor had a very empty feeling behind it with them gone already. Knocking on the door where Hunter was staying there was no response. Listening in, there was no noise that could be heard. The next step was to get a spare key or hotel staff to open the door. Turning back one last time there really seemed like there was nothing left on this floor.

The elevator rang on the ground floor with the doors opening to a few people trying to get on. Hanson was let off before they entered. Hunter was already downstairs handing over his keycard and turning to head to the door with his bags. They missed one another in the elevator by less than a minute. The group was all there and ready to head out. All the bags were packed, everyone was ready to go, and their car was waiting to take them to their plane.

Once in the air, Hunter made his way to the back bedroom where he locked the door and seemed to disappear for the entire flight. Every few hours Juliet would look back from what she was doing hoping to see him come back out. Halfway home Hanson finally addressed her, "Juliet, something appears to be on your mind." It was clear she was reluctant to tell him. The best that he got from her was, "Can you talk with Hunter in private later?" Whatever it was, it was heavy enough to put her in a corner. He wasn't going to get more than that but something told him where to start when they got back to the office.
