Memories Of The Past

"You know your mom owns a share of the hospital.

You're more of age now Ren, and I think it's high time you start managing your parent's properties" he spoke softly.

"Doctor, you shouldn't have wasted your time coming to see me just for this"

"You could have phoned as usual" I added.

"How many times do you want me to repeat that I want nothing to do with those inheritances".

" Moreover, my mom's shares in the hospital as a doctor are being managed by you".

" So, let me ask"

"Are you having a hard time managing the businesses on your own?" I questioned emotionless.

"No" he curtly replied shifting in his seat.

"Great then there's nothing left to talk about" I spoke up ready to rise to my feet and evacuate.

"Ren I know you're still saddened by your family's misfortune but no matter what happens you should never cut off ties with your mother."

"Please try to come visit her as soon as you can".

" You know she's seriously ill and with her heart growing weak every passing second.

"It's been 23 years Ren, and she still hasn't regained consciousness yet".

" It'll do her so much good if you can try to be by her side from time to time and please stop beating yourself up this way" he added pleadingly sounding hurt.

"It won't do you any good my dear"

I came here to tell you this", he added sadly.

" I guess, I can leave now" I stood slowly from the bed to my feet.

I had to walk away else I was scared of breaking into tears as a knot formed in my throat.

"Ok" he nodded without hesitation and handed me a couple of painkillers to help with the pain.

"Please pass by tomorrow so I can check your wounds" he finally added and with that, I walked out.

Leaning over a wall I tried to stop the tears threatening to spill but some memories are too painful to get over with.

FLASHBACK 7 years ago

Leaning over the window I laughed loudly as I saw my mom and dad trying to learn a new dance in the garden.

They always looked so much in love and that was what always kept us going.

"Come down "my mom called out to me as she smiled brightly.

She had a warm smile that made each day look more lively.

" Sure mom" I responded happily leaving my room and running towards them.

Dad brought out a camera and took videos as I tried to teach my mom the right dance and seeing her wiggle like a worm made dad and I burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Flashback Over.

Wiping the tears from my face, I went out to meet Zee leaning over his blue jeep.

He immediately rushed towards me as he saw me approaching.

"Let's get you back to the camp so you can refreshen up" he spoke softly like he was convincing a little child.

I only nodded since I was feeling too exhausted and weak to argue back.

I knew I still had one thing to figure out and that was the traitor in our midst.

"Have they been able to find out who the traitor is"? I asked when we were almost near the camp.

"No" he responded after a long pause.

I noticed he looked worried as he tapped his fingers on the wheel when we got into his jeep.

He always did that whenever he was worried about something and I needed to know what was going on with him.

"What's going on," I asked as he stared at me for a few seconds and back to the road.

A few seconds was enough for me to assess his expression.

He seemed reluctant before he broke the news to me.

"We received a call from the President of the United States and he wants us to be present at the Whitehouse SE within twelve hours from now" he finally let me in.

" Why," I asked sensing something odd.

" There seems to be a kind of big danger.

"I'm certain he wouldn't have summoned us if it wasn't imperative", he replied.

"What kind of problem are we talking about?" I implored skeptically.

He took a deep breath and let lose the words.

"It's Diablo" he responded and I froze in my seat.

"An explosion went off earlier at the east north park and about twenty people were wounded, ten dead and six still in shock "was his reply leaving me in shock.

Hearing this news, anger filled my heart and all I saw was red.

I remained quiet for the rest of the drive.

That bastard needs to go down and I won't rest till he's six feet underground.

The second we reached the barracks, I rushed past most of my men who had worried expressions to my room.

The silicon on half of my face was something that kept my enemies from identifying me.

I wore it every second even when I was alone.

At first, it felt uncomfortable on my face and burdensome anytime I had to put it on after taking it off but now it has become a normal routine. It hid my true identity and kept me out of harm's way.

I took a shower trying not to wet my bandage and cursed when I unintentionally brushed my hand over it.

Rushing out, I took a bottle of water from the fridge and gulped down two painkillers to ease my pain.

Putting on my uniform, I brushed my short trimmed hair which was dyed black since the day I joined the army.

My naturally blonde hair was too noticeable anytime the roots of my hair showed so I had to dye it as frequently as I could.

I met Zee at the hall who was also in his uniform with his short black hair combed backward as usual.

We have a meeting with the General as planned before we went on with the mission.

"We can postpone it to tomorrow if you want to get some rest Ren" he spoke waiting for my reply but I just shook my head.

"I'm good to go, Zee, so don't worry about me.

" Let's go have this meeting, I need to find out who the traitor is", I answered gritting my teeth in anger.

I've always hated it whenever my plans were tampered with and because of this traitor, I almost lost four of my good comrades today and there's no way in hell I'll let him go easily when I get my hands on him.

I've been known as "Fuego" for a reason and today I will prove why I attained that name and that was a promise.
