Shot

Diablo with a few of his men escaped to their hideouts as they continued to fire back.

"Why don't you come out,

you disgusting piece of trash?" I yelled.

"Fuego, Fuego"

"You think you can outsmart me huh?

" Why don't you rather just show yourself and surrender"?

"Maybe I can be a little merciful darling" he answered back sarcastically.

With almost all his men down I couldn't help but smirk since I'd now got him where I wanted.

Today will be the last time he'll ever see the sunrise and there's no backing out I promised myself.

Suddenly more vehicles came out of nowhere and his men took cover as they helped him escape.

Seeing this, I quickly adjusted my position to have a perfect shot at my target but his men got in my way every time.

Zee looked at me as he pointed to the hills and in a go, we all run towards the safe rock as gunshots were fired behind us.

We only had a minute left for the rescue team to arrive and Diablo's men kept increasing every passing second.

I knew this will become a pain in the ass and if we were not positive I could lose my comrades.

" Fuck", I cursed as I leaned against the rock to calm my nerves but even the damned gunshots still being fired wouldn't grant me my wish.

" Fuck, Fuck" I cursed out of frustration.

We soon heard the helicopter approaching from a distance. We started firing back in defense as we scurried to the hill.

I spotted Vee who was still stuck since more gunshots were fired in his direction.

Time was something inevitable, I knew every passing second was a road to death for us.

So I couldn't wait any longer.

" Zee cover me" I commanded as he nodded with hesitation.

Within a fraction of a second, I caught a glimpse of slight fear in his eyes.

He shot at them as I rushed over to Vee signaling him to follow my lead.

We managed to block the gunshots and took cover in a rush to the helicopter awaiting us now.

Zee and most of my men were already waiting and ready to cover our backs.

I felt the chillness of what exactly felt like the summer breeze at my back and I froze within seconds with my heart thumping rapidly in my chest.

Turning back I saw Diablo aim his gun toward Vee and within seconds I yelled in distress "Move Vee"

Within a flash, I jumped over him as I felt a sharp pain in my ribs. I felt no pain that instant due to the adrenaline rush but I knew I was hit.

I directed my gun toward them and I fired as many shots as I could.

I caught a glimpse of Diablo hitting the ground groaning in pain.

I quickly made my way toward the helicopter and Zee pulled us in as we fled.

I tried to catch my breath, I leaned over a seat bringing my hand to my rib as I put pressure on the wound to help with the bleeding.

Everyone looked worried as they saw my uniform stained with so much blood.

Zee cursed under his breath reaching out to stop the bleeding.

" Fuego is wounded, we need to get back to the medics ASAP" he yelled ordering the pilot.

"Copy" the pilot responded in return.

After so many years of being a soldier, going through wars and secret missions.

I knew what it felt like to be mortal.

Throughout so many wars I've fought in, pain was inevitable.

This pain caused by my sworn enemy hurt like hell.

With the foreign pain, I gritted my teeth throughout the flight.

Arriving at the camp Zee supported me on his shoulders as we rushed to the clinic.

Nurses rushed towards us with a wheelchair to carry the wounded soldiers and as stubborn as I am refused to be carried.

Zee pleaded with his eyes but I preferred to walk to the medics myself and needed no one's aid.

My ribs hurt when I staggered on some stupid rock.

I quickly clutched my ribs to stop the pain and further bleeding avoiding Zee's mortified expression.

"Hi, Ren" I was greeted by Doctor Rodriguez with a smile on his face.

I was deeply surprised to see him here suddenly.

One fact was he hardly comes around unless it was urgent or concerning my mom.

It irked me at the same time frightened me seeing him.

"What are you doing here" I barked in outrage " forgetting for a split second about my pain.

"I came to check out some few things here and there, so I decided to pay you a visit" he replied with his never dying softly fatherly voice calming me down instantly.

He's been an exceptionally wonderful doctor to my family for over 20 years and has still been supportive of me under every circumstance.

Even though I acted shitty towards him I appreciated everything he's ever done for my family.

" I kind of guessed you will be here today," he said as he looked over my blood-oozing wound.

"Let's get inside and get you checked shall we?" he announced leading Zee and I to the nearest bed with no room for argument.

Zee helped me rest on the bed as he excused himself for the doctor to do his job.

The second he walked out, I barked orders at the doctor.

"Just take the bullet out and give me some pain killers"

.

"We need to examine you first Ren" he tried persuading as I saw a dark-haired nurse with freckles approach with pieces of equipment and methylated spirit on some metal steel tray.

" Keep calm Ren, I know you hate being in a hospital but first let me see how deep the bullet has gone" he spoke with his usual bright smile.

That smile was starting to irritate me to my bone so I did the first thing that came to mind.

I grabbed a pair of tweezers and cotton to wipe off the blood and poured tons of methylated spirit on the wound.

It burnt like hell as I gritted my teeth to stop the groans.

Just as I was about to take the bullet out the doctor held my hands with a shocked and concerned look on his face.

"Ren" he muttered emotionally hurt stopping me.

The nurse also had the same expression on her face but it didn't seem to make me change my mind.

"You've changed a lot, my dear," he said with a sad smile and I felt a pang of guilt in my chest

"Let me help you" he offered as he took the tweezers from my hand and I willingly let it go.

Slowly he took out the bullet and stitched me up as I gritted my teeth in pain and looked away.

He cleaned me up and wrapped my ribs in a bandage.

"You're lucky it didn't go deep Ren like you'll have to undergo surgery," he said as he excused the nurse.

Sitting closer to me on the bed he took my hands in his.

"There's something important I need to inform you" he spoke and my heart accelerated in fear.
