Come on, Yam. Don't think about the spiders. Misato was probably just trying to creep me out. Hopefully. Yami thought this as, though an hour after she had made way to her dorm, she felt quite scared indeed. She hates spiders, name one? She'll run away in no time. Every time, you'd get to her.
Unfortunately for her, she was still alone in that cold, old room and no other students had come in. She had started to shiver, as there was no heating at all. This academy is cursed, Yami thought as she flinched every time her skin tickled. She looked at the old, rusty clock that sat on the musty drawer across the room. 11: 00 p.m.
Ignoring the time, Yami got out of her bed and went to her bags. She pulled the string on the dusty, old lamp and zipped open the luggage. It had all of her things in it. Books, clothes (not that she would need them or anything), and a few random supplies that are not worth mentioning.
There was also a small wallet, filled not with money, but with photographs. Yami smiled weakly and remembered the good times when she was still with her family. She attempted not to think about the present and all the problems about this situation. The first picture in the album was of her when she was three. She had not two, but four pigtails and she was holding her father's hands. Her mom, in the picture, was kissing the top of young Yami's head. This was before Yami's sister, Koku, was born.
The second photo depicted Yami, age five, sitting by the old oak tree outside of her old house. There was snow falling from the sky, and you could see she was quite cold. I remember that, Yami thought as she traced her little head on the photograph, smiling melancholically.
Now the third one, the last one in the wallet, was the most special one. It was Yami's whole family. Her mother, her father, her sister, and Yami herself. Koku's hair was as brown as her father's, but her eyes were misty gray like her mother's. She had on a small dress, as she was only four. Her father was holding her up proudly. Next to the father was their mother. Her hair was purple and eyes as gray as steel, just like Yami herself. She kneeled next to Yami and looked like she had her arm around her daughter's shoulder. They all looked so happy. Before…Koku had died.
Tears came to Yami's eyes as she stared at this last, emotional photograph. Her sister was very important to her. Her family was important to her. But now, she was at the dusty, old Dark Academia where things were doing, well, not so good. Sure, the Headmistress, Rosa, was actually nice, but it still was not going well. She could not sleep. No one had come. She was alone in this room for now, and it stressed her out. A lot.
She gently put the photos back in the wallet and put it in the luggage. She wiped the tears out of her eyes but still sat there, mourning. She knew it was a bad idea to just sit and cry and whine and mourn, but she didn't care anymore. No one was there. Well, at least she thought no one was there.
"How long ya gonna be there crying, dummy? That's kinda, erm…pathetic, shall we say?" Said a voice behind Yami. This startled her so much she bounced. She had been caught mourning! But by who?
When Yami turned around, she saw a girl with fiery orange hair and pitch black eyes. She had a baggy night shirt on, which read "I'm a Troublemaker, Get Over It." She wore baggy sweat pants and her shoes? She had no shoes on. She looked partly snappy and partly impatient. She drummed on the other bed on the opposite side of the room, her nails the color of fire.
"Well?" She questioned, and Yami sighed. This girl must be one of her roommates. Excited? No. This girl seemed a little bit too snappy for her own good.
"I'm not crying!" Yami confirmed, and the girl snickered as if she did not believe Yami. (Yes, Yami was lying.) She shook her head and face palmed herself, almost rolling on the floor with laughter.
"You people—you people make me laugh so, so hard—" The girl kept cackling and Yami rolled her eyes and got off the ground to finally go to sleep. However, the girl grabbed her by her shirt and grinned.
"You haven't told me your name yet, dummy!" She said, and Yami winced. She hated people calling her names. However, this was probably going to be expected at the Dark Academia..
"I'm Yami Hoshikiri, and you?" Yami asked, trying to sound neutral. She didn't want to come by as an overly sensitive person, because she wasn't, she was just having an emotional moment back then.
"I'm Mari Kamada. I'm new here, as you obviously are too," Mari said, looking up and down at Yami. She didn't like being looked at this way, but she had to not care. It was not a huge deal. Instead, Yami nodded. For a few seconds, it was complete silence as everyone finally got to bed. However, a few minutes later, the door opened up and startled both Yami and Mari. It was a girl with blonde hair and vibrant blue. She had on lots of accessories, of course they were pink as well. However, the dark, sad Dark uniform did not fit with this.
She looked kindhearted and shy. Her eyes were like teardrops but sideways. It looked like she had no eyebrows, but they were very light and quite unseeable. She was holding a pink luggage with hearts decorated on it. She looked pure and natural, nothing like Yuki, who put on makeup all day. However, she still reminded Yami of Yuki. She looked like she deserved to be in the Light Academia.
Yami got out of bed to greet the girl. "Hi, I'm Yami and—" Mari interrupted her rudely as she was trying to speak. Yami rolled her eyes and the girl looked very nervous.
"I'm Mari Kamada. This is the official dummy, Yami, and—" This time Yami interrupted her.
"Please stop calling me a dummy, Mari…" Yami mumbled and Mari sighed and went back to her bed. Yami motioned for the girl to come in. "What's your name?" The girl flushed. She looked extremely shy.
"I'm Akuji Kagei," The girl said and innocently hurried over to the middle bed and set down her luggage. Mari was already fast asleep, and Yami was trying to get into bed but kept getting bothered by Akuji's name.
Kahei means shadow or a phantom. And Akuji means evil deed. Yami thought as she rolled in her bed, still unable to sleep after these many hours. It must almost be morning, and the worst thing was she had only just come. The Academy would really start the next day.
Just as Yami was about to fall asleep, she started to have strange hallucinations. Suddenly she was pinned to her bed, and the whole place felt dark and baren. She was now in pitch black darkness, and she felt as if she was falling.
She wanted to scream, but she couldn't. Was it space? Well, there were no stars. Was it a hole? Didn't feel like it. However, wind surged through Yami's hair in this strange hallucination. A small, demonic figure was suddenly at her side. It looked like…Akuji?! She grinned and flushed, then suddenly pinned Yami to a hard surface Yami could not see.
Then, she woke up.
