21: For what used to be

Javier set foot into Soren's room.

A wave of memories hit him as his eyes scanned through the room. He could spot the dragonling in every corner of the room.

His eyes were attracted to the huge painting of Soren by the wall right above the bed. The male wore a bright smile in the picture.

Javier could recall the day it was painted. It was the day they celebrated their seventh anniversary. The King took a deep breath, unable to stop the tears forming in his eyes. He was in pain.

A bond of more than a decade was broken by a simple mistake. Javier was in disbelief. He dropped to the ground and let the tears flow from his eyes.

He wished Soren could see the tears in his eyes, as they spoke the truth of what he was feeling. The male would be able to understand how much he meant to him. The love he had in his heart for Soren was immeasurable. No words could truly define it or explain it.

Soren was the person who was able to make his heart beat faster and slower at the same time. The one whose smile would light up his whole world. And now the man was gone from his side.

He was under the impression that the bond they had was unbreakable. From the moment he had set his eyes on Soren for the first time, he knew deep down in his heart that he had found someone truly special. Being in love with Soren was the most amazing feeling in the world.

A million thoughts ran through his head. His heart listening to the emptiness in the room. Someone important to him was missing.

It felt like a dream to walk into the room and not see his Soren. The dragonling was embedded in every corner of his palace. The memories of what used to be driving him out of his mind.

Javier glanced at the floor, the inscription of their names was marked on every tile on the floor. S & J was on every tile his eyes dared to stare at. Another reminder of how important Soren is to him.

From strangers to friends to lovers. He had come a long way with his dragonling. The two of them had never spent so much time apart. No matter what they were going through, Soren always came back to him.

This time around, Javier was aware that no one was going to walk through the door and hold him. It tore his heart apart.

Tears of despondency cascaded down his cheeks. Javier bit back a scream.

He was missing the feeling he got each time they locked eyes with each other. When he would gaze into Soren's eyes, he would see a reflection of his heart. All the pieces in his life would fit into place and he would be at home.

His home wasn't the palace but the one person in the palace who gave him peace. Now that person had taken off.

With his departure, Javier's destruction was set in motion. Without Soren, he felt broken. The two of them together worked well, they were magical. When they were together it was as though all the magical pieces of his life finally collided in place.

Javier couldn't make a sound.

'Don't leave me,' he screamed in his mind. Though he knew Soren couldn't hear him.

His dragonling had decided to sever all ties with him. The male had moved on to the next kingdom to find someone new to take his place for all he knew. Meanwhile, he was on the ground crying for what used to be.

He was so weak. A King wasn't supposed to burst into tears and weep so easily. And there he was throwing his dignity aside to mourn for the love he had lost.

Javier reached out into the dark room. Hoping a warm arm would hold him. Tell him that everything was going to be fine. The fight they had was going to pass and nothing could ever come between their magical bond.

The emptiness of the room greeted his hand. A cold breeze hit his skin causing him to shiver. His blood ran cold.

Once upon a time in that room, he had fallen in love and now he was only falling apart. Javier figured out that he wasn't strong enough to live in a world without his cold, aloof, and heartless dragon.

Soren had many flaws. He wasn't the best person to get along with. His heart was filled with darkness, while his mind was fueled by dark thoughts, and in his eyes played a dangerous glint that threatened anyone who dared to glance in his direction.

Yet, those very eyes softened only for him. His heart was made of ice melted at the mention of Javier's name and his mind would come up with different ways to impress the king.

That was the allure of loving a villain that hated everything. It was knowing that he was capable of burning the world down just to see him smile. Understanding there was no limit he wouldn't cross for the one he loved. And that kind of love makes one obsessive. Which was why Javier found it hard to share Soren's attention with anyone else.

'Come back to me, please,' he pleaded.

Thoughts ran through his mind. Dark thoughts of what ot will take to get Soren back.

Javier forced his body up from the ground and marched over to the bed. He threw his body onto the bed and sighed heavily.

He took a deep breath, taking in the sweet scent of his dragonling on the bedsheets. Trying to feel him in the bed that used to be theirs.

There was no telling how long it will take for Soren to come back to him. Javier closed his eyes to get some sleep.

Distant rumbling!

Indistinct screams were heard from all corners of Zarlos. Loud crumbling sounds sounded in the distance. Javier could hear them but couldn't bring himself to care.

The world around him could break and whither away for all he cared. His world was gone from him, leaving him alone and heartbroken.
