40: What it means to lose him

The curtains hanging in the king's room were so thick that they barely let light into the room. They cast shadows of the trees outside into the chamber.

Measures were taken by the king's loyal servant to preserve his sanity. Adnan was left to tend to him in the night.

Javier fell into slumber the moment they returned to the room. His hair was disheveled. The King changed into an old wrinkled nightwear. He hugged himself to sleep.

Adnan could only assume the dress belonged to Soren. Javier was clinging to any reminisce of Soren. As though his life depended on it.

It worried Adnan. Javier refused to mourn Soren, he refused to accept the dragonling was truly gone and to let him go. His stubbornness was harming him more. Which caused Adnan pain.
