Industries

Shane Reed did not know the thoughts of Brick but had agreed to the idea of sending out a small team to retrieve his daughter.

It was much too difficult to send a group out before the rest of the mansion and the inner area had been cleared up of zombies.

Shane was the type of person who could trick his niece just to take away what was rightfully his brothers which had been passed onto her.

He did have a little talent in running the businesses to be able to keep them from failing but he was not skilled enough to improve it.

Shane was the type of person that highly valued status and the power which came with wealth, he sucked up to and made deals with those he deemed as his equals or betters while he was not above picking on the weak.

A person obsessed with lineage and power would usually find it difficult to think past those two things, their obsessions would cause harm to those around them due to their toxic personalities and how they tried to achieve their goals.

It did not matter if his loved ones suffered harm or humiliation by someone he had set up a meeting with so long as he achieved his goal.

His daughter was loved by him but it was difficult to remove her from being involved in his goals which had caused her life to be more controlled and directed towards those ends rather than him caring enough to ask what she wanted.

When the world had changed, it had scared him greatly and he had cowered in his room with a shotgun after locking himself inside.

Shane researched on the internet about what could happen in various similar situations like a global viral spread or a major calamitous event, it was pointed out that due to the world being changed and most things being disrupted there would be a need for prioritising certain important items that would be essential for survival and to help overcome whatever change the world had undergone.

In war times there would be four main industries that would prosper and the world would revolve around them, those that were smart enough to take control of either of them would flourish in those times.

Steelworks was one of them which revolved around the need for weapons, tools and materials needed in those times.

Energy or power plants would be needed all the more to maintain the stability of the world and keep humans connected so they could be united against the threats but the zombies and the changes to the world would cause many disruptions.

Food was one of the most important and it was the one which the Reed family had control over, all that was needed was to regain control of the warehouses so Shane was very excited.

Construction was the forth and final one which would be put to use for fortifying and rebuilding from the damage caused and to protect everyone from the many dangers they would be exposed to.

The world had been turned upside down and not everything was the same as it was but the needs of humans would remain the same.

Shane saw opportunity in the apocalypse as things became more chaotic and desperate for humanity, it was his chance to climb up the ladder and position himself somewhere he would be comfortable and respected.

Once he had been saved by the security inside the mansion, Shane had quickly stated how important it was for him to survive and that they should continue with their jobs.

It was easy for workers to turn on their employers and there would be some that would take what they wanted when the world had changed, Shane feared that the same could happen to him and his own people could do the same.

He quickly made his importance known to them to keep them all in line, if they wished to survive and did not want to starve then they would have to assist him.

Shane had the details on the locations of each factory or warehouse along with the various codes or keys needed to gain entry, there would be others that would know but nobody else within the Reed household knew.

The large amount of food resources were his golden ticket and he would make full use of it so that he could not only survive but also flourish in the apocalypse.

If others tried to force the information out of him then he would rather die and have them miss out on the benefits too just to spite them.

He phrased it in a way that expressed his importance to the future of everyone else and that they could benefit greatly if they supported his future plans.

Even the more unruly of those around him quickly took the lead in killing the zombies, even if the food inside the Reed residence did not run out anytime soon there was still a need for a way to find more.

With a goal in mind, they continued to treat Shane as their boss and protected him.

There had been a couple of deaths due to zombie bites or being eaten by the zombies due to their carelessness but those that survived had gained a little more confidence and experience after figuring out how to kill the zombies.

Shane did not have any big plans beyond securing the food resources but he knew that they would help him greatly.

Once he had seen the progress outside of the mansion, him and many others had been impressed that another group was doing so well against the zombies.

Shane was unsure if they were a rescue team, were his own people or were enemies but once Brick had come alone and had helped them secure the main hall, he was feeling grateful enough and excited to gain useful subordinates that he was willing to overlook some of Brick's faults.

Surprisingly Brick had been completely subservient from the start and had expressed his willingness to assist Shane in his efforts.

Shane was even more surprised once he had heard the details of how many survivors there were, how much of the residence had been regained and about some of the measures Brick had put in place.

His happiness came to an end as Brick had brought up another topic which caused Shane to turn cold.

Brick kept talking about his efforts and how he had formed a small team to help the other until he moved on. "So then I met another group of survivors in the outer area. Master.. that senior of mine has many people following him and is already acting like some kind of leader of a gang or something.

I did not want to cause disruptions at a dangerous time when we should all be united… but I have to warn the master of him since he already treats himself like a king and has been arming his own people with the guns from the armoury. I worry that such a person would turn on their master once they knew they could do it."

Brick had decided to play to the ego of Shane and to use the special skill that would set others onto his enemies.

He told Shane who wished to maintain his control within the resistance that Shawn was trying to challenge his power and was taking the guns, supplies and people for himself.

Shane could not allow division among those in his own people and would not stand idly by as another person was showing signs of trying to take power. 'If this is true then this needs to be handled quickly. First it needs to be confirmed once the rest of the area has been cleared out.'

Meanwhile Brick was thinking to himself. 'Sucking up skill successful. Snitching skill successful. Even if that jerk does bow down later, it will be difficult for him to regain trust from his master. If he is stupid enough to challenge his master then the two sides will end up fighting and I know who I would place my bets on at this time. Heh heh heh.'

He had not told anyone but he had taken some measures and prepared backup plans in case of any unpredictable threats appearing.

Even if it meant taking on Shawn with his own smaller group, Brick had a lot of confidence that he could handle it so leaving it to the more experienced security under Shane would be a better plan which would result in no damage to him or his own people.
