Contemplation

It did take some time for Brick to calm down after experiencing both fear and excitement over such a short period of time.

Due to the various layers of clothing that he had on his body, the likelihood of him being turned into a zombie was very low but there were always cases where the slightest bit of overconfidence could lead to a person's downfall.

It only took one scratch or bite that had broken the skin a little for the infection to begin to spread so even if there were thicker clothes and layers of them to prevent the zombie from getting to his skin, there were always times where they were able to find a way.

One single place where the protection was much less or had enough time for them to rip or bite through the layers was all it took for Brick to become infected.

If he allowed it to crawl even closer then it could have just as easily went for the more exposed parts of his body so there was still a real feeling of fear and death within him at that time.

His survival instincts had kicked in which had helped with him surviving and activating of his ability.

Once the fear of death had disappeared, he was replaced with excitement towards his new ability but it did not last too long.

Brick leaned against the sofa and sat in contemplation. 'Everything has been going so smoothly that I had made such a rookie mistake. If I am checking any place that has the potential to have a zombie then I need to approach each and every place with extra caution.

I should not have stood too close to the bath while pulling the curtain open and should have given myself enough time and room to retreat. I would not have been knocked over by the zombie if I had been more careful.

I need to have a better way of reaching for a weapon too so that I will not be too delayed in attacking when I am in danger. Carrying one at all times may be better but I only have two hands.. there may be times where a torch may be needed or something else.'

It was very easy to get too comfortable once a person had succeeded many times and Brick was experiencing just that.

He had failed to maintain every life that was involved in the defence of the gate in the Reed Residence and it was the same when he had left himself open to a single zombie.

He should not have struggled with a single zombie with his current experiences but he had still done just that.

He could not carry a weapon in his hands at all times especially when around his fellow humans so that was one problem but there were other problems involved when he had to put aside his weapons to use something else or to do something that required the use of both of his hands.

There would be situations where he would have to have a better reach for one or more of his weapons so that he could save his own life or others when there was a sudden danger that had appeared.

Brick started by cutting off the straps that got in the way then had thought to himself. 'What would actually make a useful type of weapon to go with my power? It needs to be something that can be used at a close or longer range..

It needs to be easily accessible and it must not be too heavy or large. Being too heavy will just cause my movements to become slower and if it is too large then it would be difficult to use in doors.'

The axe and knife were useful to have but using them had often put him in too close of combat with the zombies.

With the use of his barrier type power, there would be a need for him to make use of a weapon that complimented it well enough so that he could not waste the opportunities given by his barriers.

The barriers that he could form were limited in size and to how far away from him that they could form but that would change once he increased his abilities further.

The barriers may have had potential in the future but they were still mainly for defensive purposes and could not be used as much as other abilities to kill zombies.

There was still a need for him to effectively kill the zombies before they were able to break through his barriers from where he was safe.

Brick had shook away his thoughts and stood up. "I cannot be dwelling on these thoughts like this. Too much to do."

Once he had left the room, Brick had entered another room where a zombie had come towards him slowly which was a female that was dressed in a cleaning staff uniform. "Hello gorgeous."

One hand pointed out with the palm facing the zombie while the other held onto the knife that had been clenched and ready to be thrust forward.

The zombie which had been provoked by him had walked towards Brick and opened its mouth while reaching towards him. "Uuuu.. guh."

It lunged towards Brick all of a sudden but had hit itself against an invisible force before recoiling back a little. "Ur?"

It did not take long for it to recover and it lunged towards him again that was in a slightly different place than before.

The hand of Brick had moved a little and the invisible force had dispersed before reappearing in the next location in front of his palm. "What is wrong beautiful? I am right here."

There was not a great deal of damage done to the zombie from its collisions with the forcefield but it had shown that his methods were indeed correct in a way.

Provoking the zombie made it more aggressive so it would use more force to get to him so in doing so, it would be hurting itself more especially when its own head had collided with the forcefield several times.

It increased its speed and collided with the small barrier once again so its lower body had kept going forward until its balance had been lost.

The zombie fell back and landed on the ground before Brick had gotten closer and readied his knife which had fallen down onto the head of the zombie.
