Solution

Since there was a little more time to talk about things while they became more familiar with what they were doing, Brick had spoke up. "So you mentioned that they are asking to be taken home to search for precious things or their loved ones..

To be honest, it is not worth the sacrifice to do any of this for any of them and doing so will just cause losses for you. Even if you get there as they have asked, there is no guarantee that what they will be looking for will be there anymore.

If they want to retrieve something precious to themselves then it would be best to just ignore such requests. It is not that I am looking down on how important they may be to each person but they are not worth losing lives over.

If a house has been robbed or someone close to that person has taken those things away then it would have been a wasted journey too. It is the same for going in search of the loved ones of any of them.

They could still be there but they could already be dead or may have already moved on so it would of been a waste of resources and time to go looking for them. If they have moved on then the chances of running into them may not be good but…

If a base of some kind is established then it will be more likely that they may turn up there in the future so there are always ways for people to be reunited. If a base is established then people will be drawn to it."

Tanya listened quietly and said. "Not everyone will be too happy with such an explanation and they would still not wish to stick around with any kind of promises that they would not see as something that would be possible.

I could get away with explaining it to some of them that just want materialistic things but not those that want to get to their families. I fear that I may lose them if I do not make any efforts to helping them. Even Buffy has those that she wants to check on so.."

Brick had started to think things over a little as he tried to solve the problem for her. "Here is the main issue… being able to actually gather enough people to go together for that purpose and the changes that may be brought into the group once new people are saved.

Let's say that we arrive at one place and we so actually save people as planned.. what about people that are with them too? Each location that is visited will cause our numbers to grow with each group of survivors that follow along.

The more people that we encounter, the bigger the chances of there being casualties along the way and the resources we have will be used up much faster. If most people are useful then it may not be that big of an issue but having few capable people will cause everyones jobs to be harder.

We need manpower and resources to pull something like that off and the payoff will not be worth it so there needs to be some kind of much bigger goal that we need to achieve.

Saving them should be a side task that can be achieved along the way while we are working towards a much greater goal. Only then could we actually get the support needed to pull this off successfully."

Tanya knit her brows as she struggled with the difficult situation but once Brick had finished, she had come to understand his thoughts. "You mean that I should try to convince father to do something for me in exchange for a much bigger prize?

If I can convince the others that it could be possible then it is more likely that they would believe in me a little more. Do you think it is possible?"

Brick was lost in his thoughts. 'Hmm.. it actually might be possible but there is no way he would send his precious chess piece away at that time so it would be left to others to handle. If she can convince him to take action and make use of it then a really important move could be made.'

The only way to avoid a big loss was to achieve something big during the time that others needs were being met.

The current group was not prepared enough to be able to achieve a big operation without suffering great losses so there was a need for additional support to achieve everything.

Everything pointed back towards going back to the Reed Residence first before anything else could be done about the problem.

Most of the power and resources was in the hands of Shane Reed back at the Reed Residence which was waiting to be used for some purpose.

It would usually have taken some time before Shane would have been able to regain control of his territory before he had started to send out people to save his daughter and gather resources according to the original novel.

With the intervention of Brick, he was able to gain control of his territory much sooner and had been able to send Brick to Tanya much sooner than the original novel too.

The next goal that he had in mind would be something that he would be planning already thanks to Brick making things easy for him so it was an opportunity to make use of.

Once Brick and Tanya had finished talking, Tanya went back to the others and started to discuss what she had in mind for the future in the hopes of keeping her friends by her side.

Since there was some kind of plan that may have worked better than anything they could come up with, many had thought that it was the best they could hope for given their current situation.

Not everyone was so convinced and planned to stay back or go off on their own but a lot of the group that were considering other options had been persuaded to put their trust in Tanya.
