Shorty

The boss put his hand on his chin and smirked. "What is in that area again?"

He did not find the idea of travelling to a petrol station far away as something that could be done since it would be too dangerous and it would be unlikely that they would be able to run into the others who avoided them upon reaching those places pointed out.

His gaze was drawn to the large area on the map that the youth had pointed out, he had to admit that the large piece of land was very tempting for him to want to stake claim over.

If there were other survivors there then all he needed to do was to organise enough people to infiltrate and take over such a place then he would be able to live like a king.

The youth lowered his head and answered. "I believe that is where the upper class live. Expensive houses, a lot of land and even their own big walls to protect them. Among them is one in particular that looks larger than the others. See?"

There were several patches of land which were shown as places that were privately owned land and buildings which were a part of the upper class of homes but they were nothing compared to the size of the land he pointed to.

He thought for some time before coming to a realisation. "It could be them.. if that is the case then it makes sense!"

The boss sternly asked. "Who?"

The youth explained. "It was a famous story some time ago. A family bought up the surroundings homes and got a major permit for to develop the land to their needs. I heard that it was a very rich family that owns all of this.

Hmm… what was it again.. Reed? Yes Reed! It all makes sense now! Such a big family like them would not die so easily and they would have no problems with gaining supplies. They own many food based companies so how could they possibly worry about food like the rest of this?"

As he was excitedly talking, the boss stood there silently and the greed in his eyes was becoming more clear with each second that passed.

After some time being spent in silence, he spoke again. "How does a kid like you know of such a thing? I am guessing that this was something that happened way before your time."

The youth answered nervously. "Well I did study building design so we often had lectures about such things. Since the Reed family have been quite influential within this city and were very active in the past, there are certain areas that even local past events are within the curriculum."

For a program that taught a specific subject, there would be many kinds of lectures whether it would be done by famous people in other countries, in the far distant past or even based on the present development of their own city.

For someone that was studying building design, he had sat in on the lecture that covered the building of the Reed Residence so he knew about it.

The boss patted his shoulder. "Hahaha shorty.. continue to prove your worth like this then I may consider letting you properly work under me."

He understood the importance of the youth in front of him since the youth was a lot smarter than him who had dropped out of the education system getting involved with a bunch of thugs.

The youth contributed a lot to helping arrange a useful plan to help filter and halt the zombies long enough for the thugs and others under them to clear away the zombies that lingered in the area.

The use named 'Shorty' spoke with a hesitant tone. "Um.. if you are considering taking over such a place then it may not be too easy. The power may have gone out but they should have trained security inside that will still protect the family so long as they still remain loyal."

The boss clenched his fist and laughed. "I do not fear them. Even these monsters can do nothing to me. Hahaha. They tried to bite me several times but it did not work."

Among the survivors that had fought the zombies, he was one of them and it was then that he discovered a strange change within himself.

The zombies grabbed onto him during a moment of carelessness and bit into him.

As it was happening, his allies rushed to pull them off him resulting in a couple of deaths but he remained alive and unharmed.

The bites and scratches of the zombies were unable to break his skin so he was able to avoid being infected.

The boss felt like he had been gifted with something amazing that let him endure more than the average person.

He had not tested the full range of his endurance but he did not fear taking on some bodyguards of some rich family.

There was one concern which he thought of. "They must be armed since they are a rich family with deep connections in this city. Right?"

Shorty nodded. "It is possible."

The boss looked serious as he said. "Alright, I guess we cannot approach this recklessly. First we gather the men then head out to look over the place for any weaknesses. After that… wait until night to strike when heir have dropped their guard."

Despite Brick's good intuition that had saved everyone from conflict, it seemed like fate had other plans as a group begun their plans to move towards the Reed Residence when they were ready to do so.
