Human?

"Are you okay?" Skye asked Veron the moment they drove into Grimshigh College. The latter had not said a word since they left the house, and Skye didn't complain because he knew the reason for his silence.

But now, just as they drove into the school premise, Veron knitted his brows even as his eyes were still closed. The frown prompted the question Skye asked, and at the same time, he began to think if there was something they missed or forgot to bring along.

Veron said nothing for a while, trying to understand the strange way he was feeling, which was different from his normal weakness. Even Gerrard was restless, and he could feel the confusion of his wolf.

"Something is wrong with this place. I'm destabilized." Gerrard pointed out, and Veron couldn't argue. In fact, he agreed with Gerrard. Something was indeed wrong, and he couldn't place his finger on it.

"Are you sure you want to buy this property? You should look for somewhere else to invest your money. I think this place is cursed." Gerrard suggested, seeing how his condition didn't seem to be getting any better.

Veron scoffed. "I'm also cursed, remember? Whatever curse is hovering over this place is not enough to stop me. I love it, so I'm buying it." At Veron's answer, Gerrard stayed quiet, finding nothing to counter his words, while Veron turned to Skye.

"I'm fine. Let's go." He responded to Skye's question, then unlocked the door of the car and stepped outside.

His eyes scanned the area, seeing how some students flocked around the car park area and were either staring at him, Skye, or the car they came with.

Paying no attention to their hushed whispers, he moved his gaze around until he located the administrative block, which was where he was supposed to meet with the previous owners and management board of the school.

As soon as he located the building, he moved his legs as he began walking in that direction, with Skye towing behind him, bearing a large envelope.

Skye hastened his steps to catch up with Veron. In no time, he was already walking beside him as Veron wasn't walking too fast.

"Keller just sent a text. They are willing to let go of the three structures for that amount." Skye announced, after checking his phone which had previously vibrated.

"Good," Veron smirked, looking extremely pleased with the news. He had been pursuing that deal for a long time, and was almost giving it to the pressure that they will sell the structures to someone else who offered a higher amount.

Just as they stepped into the administrative building, Veron halted, frowning. The restlessness he started feeling when they drove into the school heightened.

"Is everything alright?" Skye queried, turning to face Veron and studying his facial expression. He had that frown on his face again, which Skye couldn't quite understand the reason for it.

"You can't feel it?" Veron asked, bringing a slight frown to Skye's face as he wondered what Veron meant.

"Feel what?"

"There is something very odd about this place. Gerrard is restle…" Veron trailed off, and his eyes went wide when the scent wafted across his nostrils. He went totally still, drawing in a long breath just to get more of the scent.

It was unlike anything he had perceived in his whole life. In fact, he didn't think he had come across anything with such a beautiful and addicting scent. If he had, he was sure he would have been addicted by now.

He knew what this was. That person, that special person, who was made just for him, was here. His heart started racing, skipping multiple beats. For the first time in a long time, he became nervous, thinking and worrying about so many things at the same time.

Would she accept him? That was his greatest worry and fear. He wasn't normal after all. If his very own family rejected him, who was he to seek acceptance from a stranger, even if she was his mate? Letting out a sigh and wearing a small smile, he scanned the waiting area, seeing nobody there except himself, Skye, and the receptionist who was attending to some people. However, the person with that scent was not there.

Letting his nose lead the way, he followed her scent, going in the direction opposite the receptionist's counter.

"Excuse me, sir…" The receptionist called out, seeing how Veron was going to staff offices without stating why he was there.

When Veron continued walking without responding to her call, she moved out from behind her counter to go stop Veron.

"Good morning, miss." Skye blocked the young lady, flashing her his best smile. She smiled back, still stretching her head to look in the direction Veron went.

"Don't worry, we are together. We are here for the executive board meeting." Skye informed her and she mellowed down a bit.

"Oh… Okay, sir. The meeting is taking place on the fifth floor, not there." She pointed in the direction Veron left, and Skye nodded in understanding.

"I'm aware. But you see, my boss just wants to take a brief look around, since he would soon be the new owner of this prestigious institution. I hope that isn't a problem?"

At the mention of a new owner, the receptionist's eyes widened, before she shook her head, putting on a friendly smile.

"Of course not. It's no problem at all. I'll inform Mr. Charles that you are here."

"Thank you," Skye smirked, turning in the direction where Veron went, smiling like a fool. From Veron's body language, and the way his heart was beating irregularly, fast and loud, Skye already figured out what was going on.

Meanwhile, Veron finally reached the hallway where her scent was dominant, seeing six offices on either side of the long corridor. They were all closed, except for the one at the end of the hallway.

Just as he took the first step toward the office, she stepped out of the office, and immediately, his excitement died.

"Human? My mate is human?"
