Chapter 8: Doubts

Alpha Lycus responded, “I don’t want to be mated to a blood-sucking night creature.”

The words cut deep as he walked out of the council hall. Anger rose and I could feel my beast rising to the surface. How dare he? Did I ask for this?

Tristan walked into the room a few minutes later and one glance at me and he knew that things were bad.

“Let’s go,” I instructed.

We left the Sila council fortress, and I could tell Tristan wanted to ask what happened but by the way I was huffing he left me alone. I arrived at the vampire coven villa and went straight to the library.

Pacing up and down in the secret room, I wondered why my mate would utter such nasty words. Yes, I was a blood-sucking night creature. So what? I was handsome, rich, and powerful. Who wouldn’t want to be mated to me?

Hours later after reading to calm my body down from the anger fits, I left the coven Archive Library for bed. Tristan was waiting for me in the hallway, and I knew that I owed him an explanation.
