As in, "You are so goddamn self-centered."

Carl said, "I was back in the day." I'm sorry for what I did to you and your mom. A day doesn't go by that I don't regret anything I did.

From what I could see, they had never discussed it, and I sat quietly, hoping to blend in.

The normally cheerful David's demeanor soured. "Don't bother me with your nonsense," the speaker said.

Seeing the two guys who meant the most to me in conflict hurt, especially because I knew I was to blame. In an instant, Carl's efforts to make things right with his kid were undone. As I fought to keep my emotions in check, I looked at the ground at my feet.
