Twenty

I went upstairs and plugged my phone to charge before going to the bathroom to take a shower. It was when the water droplets wet my hair that it occurred to me that I didn't give Uche my reply after he asked me out. I had walked away with Nick going on and on. I should have just said yes before he received Nick's call but then my aunt would have still been worried.

Thinking of it in the shower, Uche was right, the creek did grant wishes, I wished for a mutual likeness from him and he just asked me to be his girlfriend, I just hope it actually grants my first wish, I hope my mum's time at the rehabilitation center is shortened.

I sat in bed, part of my hair still wet, I put a small towel around my neck and unlocked my phone and messages and calls notifications kept popping in. Many of them were from Nick.

They were twenty two missed calls from Nick and eight from my aunt. Nick had texted me like a maniac. I scrolled through my messages and I saw an unanswered message from Uche, it was a recent text, almost now, it seemed like he just went offline.

'You didn't give me an answer.'

'And I still have ur books.'

'Why aren't you online rn?'

'Pls come online.'

'Can I call?'

'Will u get mad if I call?'

'U seem not to like phonecalls, I've noticed.'

I smiled at the multiple text. I was about to text back when I saw an incoming call on my screen, it was Uche.

"Why did you call, you said you noticed that I don't like phonecalls." I picked the call.

"I'm sorry...I...I just, you weren't online and I...., are you mad?" He sounded really apologetic after what I said to him.

"No I'm not, I don't like phonecalls but we can talk." I could imagine him smile, he was always smiling whenever we talked.

"Okay...." it grew silence for a short while. " You didn't uhmm...you..."

"What? I can't hear you." I chuckled in my room alone because I knew what he wanted to say.

"What I told you before Nick called my phone, you didn't give me an answer." I found myself giggling, was this really happening? I left the bed for the window to know if he was in his room. "Julie? Can you hear me?" He asked when I wasn't saying anything.

His room's light was on so I could see him even though it was night already, he was sitting at the edge of his bed, running his fingers through his curly hair repeatedly.

"I can." I said biting my lips, I loved the way I was feeling.

"So, what are you saying?"

"Look at me." I said but he didn't look towards my window like I expected but I bet he had a confused face at that moment. I slapped my forehead, remembering that he didn't know I could see him.

"Look at you?"

"Look out your window," He left where he was sitting and was now at the window, I could see his face clearly now so I waved with a smile. He finally saw me and smiled back, exposing his beautiful set. "Can you see me?"

"Yeah?" He opened up his curtains more and stuck his head out. "This is your room?"

"Yeah."

"Wow." He was grinning.

"What you asked me earlier, my answer's yes." I saw his face brighten up more.

"Thank you!" He said loud enough that I could hear without the phone.

"Did you just say thank you?" I laughed really surprised.

"Yes, you honestly don't know how I would have felt if you had said no to me so thank you, now I can sleep peacefully tonight." He went back to talking on the phone.

"What?" I was laughing more now even though he wasn't practically saying a joke.

"Imagine I know this is your room now, and then you had said no, I swear it would kill me, knowing that I can actually talk to you from my window but CAN'T because we aren't dating, I'm glad we are, now this isn't weird."

"We are really dating huh," I was now Uche's girlfriend. "What's the date, I should save it, the day I said yes to you."

"Uhmm, today's the seventh."

"Seventh." I repeated to myself, making a mental note to save it in my stickers diary when I got off this call. He didn't know but he was the first person I was actually saying yes to and I wanted to keep that memory. I heard a knock on my door, making me grunt.

"Hold on, someone's at my door."

"Okay, no probs, I will wait."

I opened the door and it was Nick, I glared at him expecting him to go on with why he had knocked.

"My mum asked me to get you, dinner's ready." He was looking at his phone the whole time he was talking and only looked up when he didn't hear me reply. I shut the door and went back to the window, Uche was still there.

"Sooo, my aunt's asking for me right now, we are about to have dinner....." I trailed off with my words.

"Oh okay, but you'll come online after that right?" He asked and I nodded, "Alright, we'll chat later then." He smiled but I still stood there, boyyy was he cute. He waved at me and brought back my attention, making me smile sheepishly before leaving the window spot.

While I had dinner with my aunt and Nick downstairs, it was quiet, awfully quiet, my aunt wasn't as cheerful as she usually was while trying to know how our day went and it made me feel a little guilty.

"Aunt."

"Mhmn?" She looked up from her plate.

"I'm sorry, I made you worry for nothing today." Her face lit up with a caring smile, I felt better when she smiled at me.

"Your mum trusted me when she signed me up to be your guardian for the meantime so I just got extra worried when Nick came back home and you weren't with him." Nick shot me a look when his mum mentioned his name making me almost roll my eyes but I didn't, my aunt was still talking."Please let me know when you are going somewhere, for your own safety, okay?"

"Okay." I nodded and we were about to resume eating but she decided to say some more things.

"I know it's safe around here but still....you understand what I mean right?"

"Yes aunt, I do." She smiled again when. I assured her that I did.
