The Upcoming Anniversary

"Is there something wrong?" Blake returned her embrace by warmly wrapping his hand around her.

"Nothing. I just found the need to tell you that I love you more often when I have a chance." Marissa buried her head on her chest and took her time to appreciate their moment together.

Blake's smile faded as he noticed the sadness in Marissa's eyes. He gently cupped her face and looked at her with concern. "Are you sure there is nothing wrong? You look pale," he asked, pulling away slightly to get a better look at her.

Marissa shook her head. "Nothing's wrong, maybe it's just because I'm not wearing any makeup," she replied, trying to make light of the situation.

Blake chuckled lightly. He rubbed his thumb on her cheek and asked, "Have you eaten?"

"Yes, I have," she smiled, although it was a light meal since she hadn't had much appetite lately. Despite her efforts to not think about her mother, the situation still weighed heavily on her mind.
