The Key

Blake tapped his fingers on the table. The night in the study room was silent as his mind was preoccupied, trying to connect all the dots.

"You look troubled. Is there anything I can help with?" Marissa had been standing at the door for a minute already. She had knocked before opening it, but Blake was too lost in his thoughts to notice her presence.

Blake immediately raised his head, a smile forming as he laid eyes on the face of the woman he loved. He stood up and walked towards her. "I've been thinking about work. Did you just wake up?" He pulled her into his embrace and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead.

Marissa looked up at the tall Blake and nodded. "It was kind of hot, and I had trouble sleeping," she said, tightening her wrapped hands around Blake's body.

"Hot?" Blake frowned, concerned. He scooped her up into his arms as if she were a baby. "Let me check the air conditioner," he said, walking out of the room with Marissa in his arms.
