Isn't it easier to withstand than breaking up?

The silence was too loud. Blake froze. His heart was torn between his promise and his feelings. After a few seconds of quietness, Blake finally reached for Marissa's hands that were wrapped tightly around his waist. His fingers could feel the softness of Marissa's hands, the hands that he had always held before and the hands of a person that he missed a lot.

"I'm sorry," Blake opened his mouth and uttered an apology.

Marissa's head, which had been leaning on Blake's broad back, moved. She frowned, as she couldn't really grasp the meaning of his apology. "Why?"

Blake slowly removed Marissa's hands from around his waist. He turned to face her. "Breaking up is the best for both of us."

Marissa was trying to digest his words, her eyes staring and furiously blinking at him. "Are you trying to get back at me because I said those words to you before?" she asked.

"No," Blake replied immediately.
