ELENA
Throwing a thank you over my shoulder at the woman, I ran toward the elevator. I hit the button rapidly, waiting for the damn thing to reach the floor I was on.
I thought of taking the stairs. Would I be able to get him? He must be at least three floors down from me.
"Shit!" Cursing under my breath, I ran down the stairs as fast as my legs carried me.
I kept looking down to see if I could catch his sight. On the ninth floor, I saw a black figure descending the stairs at normal speed.
I thought of yelling and asking that man to stop, but I had seen enough movies to know that it would only alert him, and he would run down without wasting time.
I had to keep him unaware of his situation and increase my speed. So I did exactly that!
My chest lacked air, but I pushed myself forward. I was on the fifth floor while he was on the fourth when he suddenly stopped.
My heart was beating fast in my ears.
