"Kelly," Whitney called again, seeing that there was no response the first time. She took a step closer to him. Seeing his pale face, Whitney felt sad
"Don't worry, everything will be fine," Whitney patted his back but did not forget to head to the kitchen side to get her phone and call for an ambulance.
"There is a traffic jam. It would take an hour for us to get there. I suggest you look for other options if it cannot wait," The lady that picked up the call informed her.
Whitney did not know how bad the situation was. Her sister had already lost consciousness from losing so much blood.
" It would take a while for the ambulance to get here, " Whitney told Natalie. She was still gently patting Kelly on the back.
"How long?" Natalie asked as she examined Gracey.
"An hour at the earliest," Whitney replied.
"Let me go and get a cab, she had lost so much blood, and she needs to get to the hospital," Natalie explained as she dashed out of the house to seek a cab.
"Would she die?" Kelly asked. He had calmed down after being hugged for so long.
"No," Whitney shook her head.
"You are not lying to me?" Kelly did not believe his sister. He had seen it in a movie once. The person died when there was so much blood on the floor.
"of course not. Why would I lie to you? Gracey just hurt her hand, and she would be fine after seeing the doctor," Whitney said. She was not sure if she was comforting Kelly or herself.
"Okay," Kelly nodded his head.
"Then how about you stay with Mrs Vivian while I head to the hospital?" Whitney said. There was no way she would take the little boy to the hospital.
"No, I will go with you," Kelly refused. Whitney frowns her brows. She found out that he had also rejected going the previous day, leading him to follow Gracey to the party.
"Tell me the truth. Why don't you want to go over to Mrs Vivian?" Whitney was worried that something significant might have happened to her brother when he was there the last time he was there.
"She always says things that make me scared," He replied. Whitney was thinking of a way to convince him when Natalie returned, "I found a taxi, " she announced.
Whitney dropped Kelly down and assisted Natalie in moving Gracey into the cab.
"I will take Kelly with me," Natalie offered.
"Thank you very much," Whitney was delighted to hear that. As a hospital was not a place to take a child if he was not sick
" You would go with sister Natalie? " She asked Kelly. She knew that the little boy had been scared out of his wit.
" Yes, " Kelly agreed. He was used to Natalie, so he felt safe with her. Seeing this, Whitney was relieved. She immediately left with the cab man to the closest hospital.
It took half an hour to get to the hospital because Gracey was sick most of the time; she already had a file in the hospital.
"What happened to the patient?" a doctor asked as Gracey was being rolled into the ward. "she slit her wrist," Whitney answered.
"Alright, go get a blood bag ready," He turned to the nurse by his side. Because Gracey already had a file with the hospital, her blood type was known.
"Her blood type is not available in the blood bank," The nurse said.
"I will donate for her," Whitney said.
"We have to check if your blood match," The nurse replied.
"I have donated for her before," Whitney answered. When Gracey had an operation before, she was the one that donated blood.
When the nurse heard this, she asked Whitney to follow her. She ran a few tests and shook her head. "we have to contact other hospitals. You are not suitable to donate blood," The nurse said, looking at her various results.
"Why?" Whitney frowned she was beginning to suspect that the nurse did not know what she was doing.
"Your blood leave is low. We need at least two bags. If you donate so much, it will affect you," The nurse explained. She knew that many relatives were distraught.
"How about you take one bag first, then we look for another. I don't think my sister can wait," Whitney said. If this bit of blood would save her sister, she was willing
The nurse sighed, "you can't give one either,"
"You can bring a form, and I would sign that this is my decision. Would I die from the one blood bag?" Whitney asked.
"you should not take this risk," the nurse tried to talk her out of it.
"I have made up my mind," Whitney insisted. The nurse thought about it and decided to do it anyway so she would not die from losing a bag of blood. Although her blood level was low, she is generally healthy, so as long as she takes care of her body and eats things that can replenish the blood, she would be fine.
Thinking of this, she decided to go ahead. Whitney lay in the bed and watched the blood bag as the blood flowed in.
When the first bag was collected, the nurse sent that bag to Gracey. "don't worry, with the bag, we can save her. In a few hours, we might be able to get something from other hospitals," The nurse said and fixed a drip for Whitney because she was weak.
Whitney did not know how she fell asleep that night. When she woke up, it was the next day, and she felt weak and dizzy.
" You are awake, " It was a different nurse from the one that attended to her the previous night.
"Nurse, how is my sister," Whitney ignored the weakness in her body and asked about Graceym
"She is doing great. You have a kind heart. We might have lost her if you did not risk it to donate blood for her. We only got the second bag this morning. She would have been unable to wait that long," The nurse said. She felt envious of Gracey having such a lovely sister. Not many would be willing to risk their lives for their sister.
" Thank goodness, " Whitney was relieved to hear this news.
"Now that your sister is safe, you must pay attention to your health. Donating blood yesterday would affect your body. You would be slightly weaker than before. So you must take care, follow the doctor's precautions and eat suitable meals," The nurse said, handing her two papers. One was prescription, and the other was food that could help her recover faster.
" Thank you, " Whitney said. She placed the paper aside and got up from the bed even when her head was spinning
