Now that he knew Azrael wasn’t fleeing the country as she always had, Lucifer set about preparing an army because she’d made clear eons ago that she wouldn’t return with him to Hell unless it was by force. Hellhounds and lesser demons were easy to amass, but he needed Princes of Hell to lead them and truthfully, only the truly foolish of them would agree to go after their former general. It took every bit of Lucifer’s supernatural charisma to convince a handful of them to come topside and join him.
They made terrible houseguests.
But Lucifer supposed it would all be worth it if he could return to Hell with Azrael on his arm once more.
He didn’t understand why she left in the first place; he gave her all she could ever ask for and more. He thought they’d had a home together even as he waged his ongoing war with Heaven.
