[Chapter Size: 2300 Words.]
Third Person POV.
Braavos.
...
...
"We accept your proposal. We will cut off any support we would have given to another self-proclaimed king among the Seven Kingdoms in the name of the Iron Bank. We will remain neutral for now," one of the bankers said.
"However, we will not publicly declare our support until you actually have an army strong enough to defeat all your enemies. As much as we believe you really have a dragon, we still want to see that you have an army."
That was the response representing the twelve keyholders directly to Jon once again, as Jon and Daenerys returned to one of the most important rooms of the Iron Bank, where the bank's council discussed all its major business.
"Very well, that can be done." Jon nodded, satisfied to hear that. It was a good start.
"Soon you will be sponsoring us anyway. That was all I wanted to hear from the Iron Bank," Jon said with satisfaction, while the keyholders nodded as the meeting came to a close.
Before they stood up, one of the keyholders spoke:
"Before we wrap this up, there's something I want to give you, as you requested."
He clapped his hands, and the door behind them opened, with a servant bringing in a box and placing it on the table, before the keyholder pushed it toward Jon.
Jon approached the crescent-shaped table and opened the box.
Inside, he saw the crown as he had requested: Rhaella's crown, and he could see it was the real one.
"Great," Jon said, closing the box as he made it disappear before everyone.
He would give the crown to Daenerys, who was also there with him, at another moment while her eyes sparkled with anticipation upon seeing the box and imagining what Jon had seen inside.
"With that, I'll be on my way. I just need to organize the contracts I made with the Sealord about food, equipment, and then, we'll be leaving the city," Jon said as he prepared to leave.
"Wait, one more thing," one of them asked before Jon made his way out.
He seemed to hesitate more than anyone else that day.
"Listen... The House of Black and White has requested an audience with you," he said, while everyone there seemed quite surprised.
The House of Black and White's interest in Jon was unusual. As they said, they didn't schedule meetings; they just acted—mainly to kill. It was startling for everyone to hear that, but they had been acting strangely with Daemon Targaryen.
Jon thought for a second and replied:
"Alright. I'll see what they want, since I do have some unfinished business with the Faceless assassins. After all, one of them tried to kill me, but instead of just killing him, I ended up preventing his meeting with his god, since I stole his soul and it's with me," Jon said thoughtfully, leaving everyone stunned to hear someone say such heretical words so casually.
"Anyway, this is goodbye," Jon continued.
"I'll be back in Braavos as soon as I conquer the North. By then, you'll have no choice but to support us..."
With that, he turned around as Daenerys followed him out.
They went straight to the Sea Lord's mansion, where they were immediately received.
"Congratulations on your achievements at the Iron Bank," the man said, handing wine to Jon while pouring a glass for himself.
"Yes, one of the matters is settled. After all, I'm sure representatives of the four self-proclaimed kings of Westeros are crawling all over the Iron Bank claiming they'll pay their debts. I might have a short fuse for politics, but I know very well how a powerful financial institution can be troublesome in a war..."
Jon said, drinking his glass with a smile.
"Now, we can continue our business," Jon said again.
"And what about my request for food?" he asked, referring to what he had asked the previous day about prices and the amount of food he could acquire.
"Here are the documents with prices and quantities of everything you need..." the Sealord handed a document to Jon.
"Even from other cities? In just one day?" Jon raised an eyebrow.
"I may not be a man with special abilities like you show off, but I certainly have my own skills," he said with a proud tone.
Jon quickly read through the paper and nodded.
"Very well. I'll take everything at this average price," Jon said.
"Great," the man replied.
"I also want a large amount of iron, preferably swords, shields, and armor," Jon demanded.
"It will be done. I'll just need the gold first," he requested.
"Alright. That's 1,000,000 gold coins, correct?" Jon raised his tone, while the man only nodded.
Without saying anything, Jon simply raised his hand, and gold coins began to fall in the middle of the unfurnished room, startling the man, who stepped back—Daenerys beside Jon did too. The gold kept falling, each coin making a thunderous sound as it hit the ground, until it formed a pile.
"Count it. Here are all 1,000,000 coins. That should do," Jon said, while the man approached, still stunned by what he saw.
"This..." The Sealord couldn't believe it, with all that gold suddenly there in front of him.
"So-so much gold in such a short time..." he stammered.
"Where do you think I put all the gold I stole from the major houses of Westeros..." Jon said, letting the man examine the gold.
"Let's go, Dany. There's nothing more to do here. When everything's ready, send it to the North, to White Harbor," Jon replied.
"And also, don't forget to label the food in my name. After all, if Lord Manderly does anything with it, I'll have to deal with him personally," he said.
After all, this shipment would be the purchase from several cities combined and would be sent separately to White Harbor. The first shipments would probably arrive before the invasion of the North—he already wanted the storehouses full so he could supply his allies and prepare for winter.
In any case, Jon headed out, and Daenerys followed right behind.
"Are you going to the House of Black and White now?" she asked cautiously, well aware of what that place meant.
Jon nodded.
"It's time to deal with this once and for all," he said as they made their way through the city, taking a boat since it was faster to reach that part of town.
They arrived a moment later, entering the streets while Jon kept Daenerys with him, which would be safer than trying to leave her somewhere else.
The place was strange, and as they approached, the people became increasingly absent. When Jon reached the place, the atmosphere was a bit gloomy as he saw some people kneeling in front of the door, as if praying to the god of death.
"This door looks heavy..." Jon remarked as he looked at it with interest. Approaching it, he used his telekinesis, not wanting to be polite with those assassins.
People screamed, startled by the explosion of the door as it was blown off, everyone fleeing the area while Jon tossed it aside and walked forward.
Everyone kept their distance as they watched the two strangers heading into the place, but one of them tried to run toward Daenerys—only to be stopped, levitated into the air as his neck was squeezed.
"You're a Faceless assassin. Did you really think I'd let you take her hostage?" Jon remarked as he snapped the old man's neck and peeled the skin from his face, while another middle-aged man stood nearby.
Daenerys closed her eyes at the sight of the man's death, while everyone around was terrified by the man using some kind of power.
Jon pulled the body toward him and began to extract the soul from it.
"Now I have two souls with me. Let's see how you want to negotiate with me, god of many faces," Jon mocked, dropping the body aside as he moved forward with Daenerys sticking close to him.
Jon immediately lit up the area with a bright magelight.
The place was completely empty—like a dark, strange hall. There was a well and a door at the back.
Jon walked to the center of the room, observing the surroundings for a moment with Daenerys cautiously staying at his side.
"Don't worry, no one's going to hurt you while I'm here. Anyway... show yourself," Jon said as he returned to the hall, his command echoing through the space.
Then, the door opened, and someone stepped out, wearing a hood and cloak, approaching Jon and Daenerys.
"The being who can shatter the laws that govern this world has arrived," he commented.
"What does that mean?" Jon raised an eyebrow, trying to see the man's face.
"You're holding two souls... preventing them from meeting the god of many faces..." he said.
"You're not wrong. The question is—can you take them from me?" Jon asked, challenging him.
"No... not unless we start a war that would stretch on into your descendants," the man replied.
"I can kill all of you, every last one, and make sure that doesn't happen," Jon said with a serious tone.
"You most likely can... but are you willing to have us hunt your bloodline for centuries, millennia? As long as the last devotee of the god of many faces falls, others may rise," he said calmly.
Jon narrowed his eyes. He wasn't lying... gods were dangerous, and Jon might be able to handle them while he lived, but when he died...
"What do you propose then?" Jon asked, wanting to know where the Faceless man was going with this.
"A pact between us and your bloodline..." he said.
"We won't harm anyone who carries your blood, and you return the souls so they may meet our god."
"That's a bit odd... seems a little too one-sided in my favor. Should I trust these words?" Jon thought he stood to gain far more than the Faceless Men.
"The souls are very important to the god of many faces. Besides, he believes you will stop the enemy who seeks to destroy the world—which aligns with our interest. So he is placing his trust in you," he said.
"Even so, you tried to kill me..." Jon narrowed his eyes.
"We didn't know about the being... until we saw him kill one of us..." he said.
"I see... in any case. I'll accept your offer, but I expect never to see any of you near my family again," Jon said as a threat.
"Otherwise... I'll come after every one of you, and I do not fear the wrath of your god," he said.
"It will be done," the Faceless Man said.
Jon retrieved the two souls—manifestations of purple energy emerging from a separate space—as he displayed them before the hooded man, with Daenerys silently watching.
Jon began to release the souls, letting them go wherever the laws that govern this world would send them, setting them free.
"Thank you," the hooded man said as he removed his cloak, surprising Jon when he revealed the same face as the man he had killed after King's Landing.
"The god of many faces is grateful," he said.
"Tsk. Damn gods and their games," Jon muttered, no longer even surprised.
"Valar Morghulis," he said. "It means, all men must die."
"I understand... in any case, let's go," Jon said, hoping they would respect the deal made there.
Jon led Daenerys outside, while she seemed quite thoughtful about what she had heard.
Jon guided her to one of the docks and decided it was time to leave Braavos. It was time to return. Jon and Daenerys continued on, and Jon took the crown and handed it to her on the boat.
"This will be yours from now on," he said with a smile, ignoring the stunned look of the rowing man as he saw the precious crown.
"Thank you... it's back with me, I'm happy," Daenerys murmured, touching the metal with immense care.
They continued onward, and Jon secured two horses. They went to find Winter. Unsurprisingly, the crown attracted attention, and a group of mercenaries quickly followed the two, unaware of who they were, assuming they were easy targets.
But upon entering the forest, they were surprised by a massive dragon emerging from it, spewing white flames down upon them immediately, killing all six men with no chance of survival.
After that, Winter continued north as Jon and Daenerys returned to the far north beyond the Wall once again.
