Chapter 197: Powerhouses (3)

Perseus POV

"So how can I help?" Maple asked "I can't just watch over and do nothing."

"Just watch over the Urgess family, and the heroes, especially this Rolan Urgess." Dawn suggested "And if he is the one who can somehow open a small portal to this side, you tell Perseus and he'll just kill the hero, Cain is a despicable person who is responsible for torturing and killing millions, many of which are children, we cannot let it happen to that side as well."

We then discussed about the matter a bit more before the mother and daughter moved the topic to be about them and I got up to explore the apartment a bit, even though they know I can still here them, my presence away from the living room should at least give them more comfortability in talking about certain sensitive topics.

I didn't even look out the window as I walk around the house in my astral body until the conversation was over. I went back and we bit our farewells as I then later woke up.

My life is a bit of a mess, but I can't lie, it's so much more fun than college life, a lot of work, but I at least get to enjoy my journey. College sucks, the only thing useful that you're getting is the piece of hard paper, you can get most of the info from the internet. And let's not talk about the biggest scam apart from the lies of college being a good place to learn a lot of things, college books.

|Preach, bro, my prof made us buy a $100 book(I rented it for $50), only to use it less than 5 times so far.|

Back to MY story, disregard the author, he's just mad at his prof. I woke up in the middle of the night, and I then see my bedroom door unlocked with Maple coming in.

"Well, that was fun."

"You should really stop trying to attract any female members from my family line." Maple pouted as she sat on the side of my bed

"So, why are you here?"

"Just wanted to see how you were doing." she answered "You must miss your previous world, mom still have your...what are those lifelike paintings in a small frame called again?"

"A picture? A photo?"

"Yeah, that, I see that she has them up in the house and when you walk around, the memories must have resurfaced and it must be sad for you, your life is now tied to here, and even if you go back, you will abandon your family here, which I know you won't do. You must have missed it there."

"Well, I didn't think she even printed those out, I hate taking pictures in general, but those framed pictures she has really, which did remind me of my life back there, but I wouldn't want to live on the other side, it brought me back too many memories, besides, I'm not exactly a well-liked figure, people celebrated my death, I already got the message that I'm not wanted."

"What about your ex? What about your relatives?"

"I told you before, I got no living relatives, my parents were killed, as for my ex, even though we were on good terms, she's already moved on, so like I said, I'm not needed there. and it kinda sucks, cuz it's not like I asked to be born as a freak."

"Look, just talk your heart out to me." Maple requested

"Why?"

"I know that you've opened up to Leilah, how about you do it with me too?" she offered "This Cain person seems to be a problematic person, and the person in charge here is going to be you if a person as powerful as he is going to be your enemy, you're going to carry a lot of burdens, c'mon, let's go to my room, we can talk then."

What? Wait...huh? And sure, enough, she got up to leave and signaled me over while she was at the door, I just sighed and went along with it, we got to her room where he got some cold apple juice out and had us sit opposite of each other on these small armchairs.

"Oh, you were serious."

"If we're going to get along in the future, we gonna have to talk it out, I am also curious about how you and Leilah met," she replied as she drank from her glass "All you 2 said was that you met in a dream, but I want to learn more. I looked up to her and I never thought that I'll be able to befriend her as I have, and it was thanks to you."

"Maybe we should start with a short story for today before we get to that, it's a super long story."

"Fine, tell me why you keep avoiding eye contact then." she requested "You still do it sometimes, with your parents, even Leilah. The only ones that I noticed where you don't avoid eye contact are animals."

Dammit, she's gotten me into a corner there. She then made this barrier for soundproofing our conversation from being overheard by others. Hah, Leilah asked me the same thing before, this was when I was still in the project, but I've never really answered it properly. Though, slowly she started to figure it out, and she just accepted it.

"You really want to know?"

"Yeah sure, it would help me sate my curiosity." she answered "And it'll calm my mind, I have been stressed after meeting Ivy, she's lovely, but I'm not ready to deal with her."

"Fine, simply, it just makes me uncomfortable and nervous, scared even, sometimes, to avoid it, I just focus everywhere else in my peripheral vision apart from their eyes."

"There's got to be a deeper explanation than that."

"Well, you see, as I've said before, I am a very despised person, as an apocalypse-level threat, my name was made public. And that caused people to stay away from me, I got spitted on, I got called names, I was isolated from everyone, but it started from the time I was in the project, I'm just simply scared."
