Chapter 255: Mothers (2)

Mark POV

"Right, as if THE goddess would fall for a mortal like him."

"It's true you know." The guardian of the blue rose said with a frustrated expression "I hate it more than you do."

"No, the goddess would never fall for someone like him, a perfect being such as her would never fall for an imperfect person like him. She's-"

"Well, our relationship hasn't progressed to that level yet." a familiar and soothing voice whispered in my head "Look a bit to the left."

My head then turned in that direction, and I can see the woman named Maple waving at me shyly.

"No...this...can't be!?…Right, I must be dreaming."

""You're not dreaming."" the voice in my head and that woman said at the same time.

No wonder she looked and felt familiar, she's the goddess to whom I've dedicated my life too? My world crumbled right before my eyes, the blue rose...her own sister confirmed it...and now, the goddess herself said it.

First the existence of time magic, and now...the fact that our goddess will have a child...that means she'll marry, and in the manuscripts, it'll mean she must turn mortal...if she is no longer the goddess, who will be the goddess who protects our continent?

How could our goddess, the embodiment of purity and divine grace be swayed by the affections of a mere mortal? It was inconceivable, preposterous when the mortal is him of all people. How could she be so blind to the unworthiness of this mortal man?

I felt anger and so many emotions rising and swirling within me. The world seemed unfair, the delicate balance of divinity disrupted.

Once untouchable and pure, the image of our goddess had been tarnished. She had shattered the illusion of her divine nature, and I struggled to reconcile this newfound vulnerability. Seriously, Perseus Silver of all people?!

I tried to reconcile my own conflicting emotions, but I can't, and yet, the goddess seems content with her decision...and she'll have a child with that...man.

"Dad, it's cold." Ivy said "Can we go to the moon yet?"

"No, remember, the moon got no air, and if we walk unprotected in the sunlight, we'll be cooked from the inside out." Perseus replied "So, Leilah, you can start the magic now, my future self said that we're gonna need it."

"No worries." the black rose responded with a smile

"Terrence, why aren't you shocked?!"

"We live in a world of magic?" Terrence replied sheepishly "And we've read of gods falling for mortals before, though the stories decreased after their so-called oath, but it still exists, our god is infamous for his hatred of demons due to the death of his mortal lover."

"Oh, so if your god came and announce to you that he'll retire in the future, you won't be devastated?!"

"Oh, I will, but I assume that he'll have a successor to take over." he then just casually shrugs "As his avid follower, I respect the choice of my god and would wish for his happiness, and as his follower, I should also not question my god as he is absolute, if the goddess is happy with her choices, why bother?"

"Why bother?" The man killed hundreds of humans, and is now probably in the thousands, why would the goddess go for that?"

"Perhaps it's because gods don't understand the perception of our value for life since they're immortal?"

"Oh, he's found himself a good one." the demon general said with slight applause "That's the kind of future saint any god wants to have, Maple, I question your judgment for giving him your blessing."

"No, he's a good one, his heart is very pure." the goddess responded "I think Alban considered picking him to be his lord, and he's just overprotective. I sense a heart of purity and responsibility, though whether he's good enough to earn the title of saint is still in question."

"No, I am not worthy of such a title, goddess."

The weight of the title that everyone has bestowed upon me presses heavily upon my conscience, casting doubt upon my every thought and action. Even though I no longer cared what people call me, even then, I knew, I knew that I'd received more blessings than anyone else.

And now standing in front of her, I knew it, it only confirmed my suspicions, all of this was a test, a test to see whether I was worthy of such a title, I've been given such a blessed opportunity, and I will not fail her...even if I don't agree with all her decisions.

"You're not gonna have a shocked moment and grovel under the goddess' feet?" Perseus asked "Like, that'll be funny, and if I do end up marrying Maple, does that mean people like him will have to grovel and lick my feet every time I command it?"

"You would dare to abuse the authority of the goddes-"

Perseus POV

Asher just got right behind him and knocked him out.

"He was quite annoying." he commented "But as expected, he'll prove to be a worthy successor."

"Yup, you're Ruka's son, alright."

"Are you calling me hot-tempered and abusive?" Ruka asked

"A bit, yes."

"You've literally been tortured by those 2."

"You've once joined in."

"That's cuz you've seduced my mother, you're lucky that I'm merciful and can't just kill you outright."

"Wait, the sun goddess too?" Terrence asked

"Wait, Mom Dawn is their mother?" Asher asked

"Ok, what the hell didn't I tell you guys? First, you didn't know Maple was a goddess, and now that?"

I then felt a tight grip on my shoulder that cracked my bone while there was a knife cutting my neck from the left, but the one on the right just felt oddly scarier.

"So you knew that you'll be marrying my own mother?" Leilah asked "Hmm? Why are you so quiet?"

"You know that I love you and would never betray you, right?"

"You've betrayed me many times already, I'm surprised that I haven't killed you many times over and myself after so we can be together and reunite in heaven where I can just have you for myself."

Terrence POV

Woah, cool, I love the violence, I want to be adopted into this family, it seems fun.
