Chapter Twenty Three:

THREE DAYS LATER

"It's been three days Grandpa, three days and she hasn't even shown any sign of..."

"Relax son. Patience," Master Dan tried to calm his son who looked like he was going to burst out of frustration.

"Patience? I've been patient enough. Three days is enough to make anyone go crazy," Damian yelled.

"Being like this all the time won't help the situation. We all care about Maya but that doesn't mean we should all crazy. Let's just keep praying,"Master Dan tried to speak sense into his grandson's head.

"We've been praying for three days now but what..." Damian took in a deep breath to calm his burning nerves.

"Any sign of her?" Master Dan asked, diverting the topic.

"No." Damian simply stated. Master Dan sighed and shook his head. "But I'll kill her if I ever set my eyes on her," Damian growled.

"My men are still out there searching for her," Damian added much calmly.

Before Master Dan could speak, a nurse rushed out and run to them.

"She's awake," the nurse told them and Damian run inside immediately.

Maya's eyes opened slowly and she quickly sit them tight because the light was blinding her. Her body felt numb when she tried to sit. What happened to her? Why was her head aching so badly?

"Maya, my wife you're back," she heard Damian say and something wet touched her fingers.

'Back? From where?' She frowned and looked at Damian.

"Are you crying?" She asked, her frown deepening.

"You should've seen him three days ago," Master Dan chuckled whiles moving to stand beside Damian who was on his knees.

"Three days? What happened? Why can't I remember anything? Why am I in the hospital?" Maya fired them with question, confusion written all over her face.

"You're fine now," Master Dan smiled but Maya still had a questioning gaze.

"Someone tried to kill you," he said sighing in defeat. He knew she wouldn't stop asking him questions until she got what she wanted.

"Kill me? Why? I haven't done anything to anyone so why would...."

Maya couldn't bring herself to comprehend the fact that someone would want to kill her. She hasn't done anything bad to anyone. She has never hurt anyone ever since she was born so what would someone want to hurts her.

"Shhhhh..... Don't worry about that. Leave her to me, I'll....." Maya cut Damian off before he could finish.

"Her? It's a woman?" Maya asked turning pale with fright.

"Yes, a jealous ex-girlfriend," Master Dan replied.

Maya shot Damian a questioning look.

"I'll explain everything to you later. Focus on getting better," Damian said, caressing her cheeks softly.

"No Damian. I want to know everything now. I want to know someone is after my life when I don't even know her," Maya said pulling her hand from Damian's grip.

"I promise to tell you everything, just get well and..."

"No. I want to hear it now," Maya said firmly.

"Fine," Damian sighed and got up to sit beside her.

"Can I hold your hand whiles I speak?" He asked, his eyes full of plead.

Maya sighed and put her hand in Damian's outstretched hand.

"Wow, bring my grandson back to me Maya," Master Dan teased, making Maya laugh. "I'll leave you two to talk," the old man said and left.

"I'm all ears," Maya said when Master Dan disappeared.

"The jealous ex-girlfriend Grandpa was talking about is Amber. I dated her roughly two years. At that time I thought my world was complete. All I thought about day and night was her. I was so blinded by my love for her that I didn't realize she was a gold digger," Damian paused and stared at Maya.

She flashed a sweet smile and urged him to continue.

"It turns out she was pretending all that time. She never loved me, not a bit."

Maya placed her other hand on Damian's and squeezed it gently in a soothing manner. She thought she was the only one battling a heartbreak. She instantly felt sorry for the man sitting on the bed.

After going through the worse childhood which grandpa told her earlier,he also suffered a deep heartbreak. No wonder he turned so cold and heartless.

"She was with me for my money. She was with me to steal my properties and give them to my greedy brother. My whole world came crushing down when I found out. I don't know how long I spent crying in my room. I would cry during the night and appear all cold and tough during the day. I tried to bury the past and forget about her. I tried to move on but it was harder than I thought. I went in blind dates, I did whatever I could but nothing worked. Slowly my love for her turned to hatred and sadly that hatred affected everyone around me. That was until you came in....." Damian paused and planted a soft kiss on Maya's forehead.

" That night at the bar, I was tired of grandpa nagging me to get married so I asked Ron to find me a contract wife. Instead fate brought you to me. Now I can't imagine my life without you, I love you Maya and I promise to do whatever I can to keep you safe. I would even lay down my li...."

"Don't say that...." Maya's hand quickly covered Damian's lips. "Do you think I can leave without you? I don't want you to die for me. If death ever comes our way, we'll die together Damian. Nobody is leaving anyone behind. I love you Damian," Maya hugged Damian as the last sentence left her mouth.

"What did you say?" Damian asked with a smile. "I didn't quite hear you," he teased.

"I love you," Maya said a bit louder than the first time.

"I love you too," Damian smiled before pulling Maya in for a kiss.

Heat and passed filled the air as the two were engulfed in their own world. Tugging on each other's lips as their tongues entwined in a rhythmic manner.

Both were panting for breath when they withdrew the kiss.

"I could do this all day," Damian smiled, caressing Maya's cheek, resulting to her blushing deeply.
