They waited. For hours they had to wait for Cypher to come back. They even began wondering if she was ever going to come back. One of the guards ran through the door. "She's back!" She shouted and Mama's group all got up. "Bones stay right here with Dallas." Mama Williams told him and he sat back down and held Dallas's hand so she wouldn't go anywhere. They rushed outside and saw Cypher walking through the gates. Head down with her hands in her pockets and blood dripping from her nose. She walked slow so Pippin ran to her. She slowed down before she got to Cypher. "Cypher?.." Pippin called but Cypher just walked passed her. She turned and walked next to her and gently patted her shoulder to get her attention but she didn't respond. Instead she just slowly walked to one of the guards and gently tugged his sleeve.
He leaned down and she just whispered. "Get everybody out of the building.." she told him and he looked confused. "Why?" He asked but Cypher shook her head. "Just get everybody out of the building..." she told him again and he nodded and stood up again. "Alright?" He went and started telling everyone to get out, getting other guards to help him. Mama went up to Cypher who was just staring blankly at the ground. "Cypher hun" she gently lifted her head with her hand. "What are you doing?.." she asked and Cypher ignored the question. "Get everybody outside the gates..." she told her. Mama shook her head and cupped her face in her hands. "What are you planning to do" she asked but Cypher just gently moved her hands off her. "Get everybody outside the gates.." she repeated once more and looked over Mama's shoulder to see everybody leaving.
Bones walked out carrying Dallas and had a look of pure confusion. Hercules followed close behind him. Mama sighed and told her group to go outside the gates. They were all confused but obliged. Once everyone was out Cypher began to walk back inside. Pippin frowned and went to follow but Lasso held her arm. He was also instructed to keep everybody yards away from the gates so he did just that. She had promised them all that she'd join them in a moment. All she said was she was going back inside to grab something really quick before she would join them. They waited and waited. Ten minutes had gone by and she still hadn't come out. They wondered what she was doing but trusted that she would be back.
Cypher slowly roamed the halls of what had been her childhood home ever since the apocalypse started. She checked every room to make sure everybody was out. She checked every room on every floor then eventually made her way to the rooftop. Cypher slowly walked to the edge but stayed just out of sight from everybody outside the gates. She had already made sure all the animals were set free as well and double checked to make sure she was the only one in the hotel. She smiled softly and slowly sat down. She grabbed Jet's flask off her belt and drank the rest of the whiskey and attached it back to her belt. She looked over the trees and for a moment watched the sun starting to set. It was warm day but a soft breeze made it feel peaceful. She sat there and just enjoyed the soft breeze in her hair and the beautiful sky turning from blue to orange, pink, and purple as the sun slowly went down.
That was the moment Cypher realized how exhausted she was. She looked up to the sky and breathed slowly. All there was in the sky was a few birds flying and some wispy white clouds. "Huh...Cirrus clouds..." she mumbled to herself, vividly remembering what her last few classes of second grade taught her before everything had turned to hell. She closed her eyes but kept her face to the sky. For the first time since the Ret and Jet's deaths she actually felt calm. She breathed slow and enjoyed the feeling. She didn't know how long she sat there and to be honest she didn't much care. She opened her eyes and watched the sun set once more. She felt her sleeve and turned one of the cuffs of her trench coat and ran her thumb over a name that was embroidered in pink thread on the inside of the cuff. Julie. Cypher's mom. She died the first year of the apocalypse but not due to the zombies, or to injury or sickness. No. Her father had been the one to kill her. They had different beliefs about Dead End and Tony needed her out of the way.
Cypher then rolled the other cuff inside out and embroidered in pink thread was Cy Fi. Cypher looked down at it and chuckled softly, vividly remembering her mother's voice calling Cypher's nickname each time she needed Cypher when she was younger. She felt tears start to roll down her cheeks but she hardly noticed. She just giggled softly, remembering the few years she spent with her mom and the longer years with Ret and Jet. Her giggles turned to soft laughs as she thought about all the goofy moments she had with those three. She continued to softly laugh and watch the sunset as tears streamed down her cheeks. She gripped her sleeves and watched her final sunset.
